Bailey's back injury postpones Alexander bout...
A back injury suffered by IBF welterweight beltholder Randall Bailey has forced the postponement of his Sept. 8 defense against former IBF and WBC junior welterweight titleholder Devon Alexander that was slated for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Plans are for Bailey to defend against Alexander on either Oct. 20 at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., or else on Oct. 27 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer.
“I have just been informed about a half an hour ago that Randall Bailey has injured his back in sparring, and that we are going to have to postpone his fight with Devon Alexander from next Saturday” said Schaefer.
“As it relates to the Bailey-Alexander fight, we have talked to Showtime as well, and we will move that fight to either the Oct. 20 card from the Barclays Center, or to the Oct. 27 card from Anaheim. We’re not sure which one, but it will be one of those two.”
As for Sept. 8, the change means that the WBC junior welterweight eliminator, promoted with Lou DiBella Entertainment, will become the Showtime-televised main event between Lucas Matthysse and unbeaten southpaw Ajose Olusegun.
“The good news is that I’ve discussed with Showtime what’s going on," said Schaefer. "We’re still going to go with Lucas Matthysse and Ajose from the Hard Rock in Las Vegas, so that is still going to happen."
On an Oct. 20 show that is being billed "Brooklyn Pride," the headliner is a rematch between RING, WBA and WBC junior welterweight champ Danny Garcia and four-division titlewinner Erik Morales, with the co-features being WBA welterweight titleholder and Brooklyn native Paulie Malignaggi making the first defense of his belt against Pablo Cesar Cano, and Brooklyn resident Peter Quillin challenging WBO middleweight titleholder Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, of France.
Also on the Brooklyn card are unbeaten middleweight contender Danny Jacobs, and welterweight Dmitriy Salita, both of Brooklyn, Brooklyn-born ex-beltholder Luis Collazo, Bronx-born Honduran junior middleweight Eddie Gomez, and junior middleweight Boyd Melson, of White Plains, N.Y.
Meanwhile, on Oct. 27, WBC junior featherweight beltholder Abner Mares will defend his title against rising WBA bantamweight titleholder Anselmo Moreno.
Schaefer said that the Sept. 8 card will be adjusted to accommodate a full show.
"We’re currently working with our matchmakers to move some of the other fights up," said Schaefer. "We're going to deliver a full event to Showtime and it will be a special edition of ShoBox."

BUSINESS AS USUAL.ALEXANDER FIGHT CALLED OFF.
here we go again .another big fight called off.the tv folks should get tired of this stuff like us boxing fans.bailey claims he hurt his back 1 week before the fight.its off and alexander and his folks are pissed.i dont believe bailey.the back thing is great because theres no way of proving it 100 percent medically.he got everything he wanted..he wasnt ready or not in shape or both.tv folks better take a good look at this.if it was baseball basketball football the game will go one except for a national disaster in the area.
i remember reading just before the savold fight marciano had the flu and recouped a few days before the fight.on another occasion a year or so earlier his back was bothering him and yes rocky had legit back problems for years..he said lets move foward dont call of the fight.tons of fighters in the past were not 100 percent all the time.fighting 8-12 or more times a year dispite a injury or two.in all the years ive been watching this sport ive never seen anything like it.more cancellations of big fights the past year or so for any type of reason .it seems more then the whole 60 years combined.pavlik says no because of cash a week beforew.realy.he didnt know what he was getting untill then.bull.a few guys because of peds.and they were the ones asking for the test..punks fight twice a year and then its a maybe.gamboas a no show for pr..marquez -rios collapsed instantly...tv should have the balls to say fuck you guys.theres tons of fighters we can showcase.show up or your done..

Re: Bailey vs Alexander postponed.....
I don't think Bailey would lie about this. He needs the fight more than Alexander.

Re: Bailey vs Alexander postponed.....
It is disappointing because Devon needs to be active as well as bring fights to the STL(for me). However, it aligns better with the potential Paulie unification fight that I have mentioned before. I wonder if Kell Brook would wait out that fight to demand his mandatory. Also, if my boy Devon happens to get to the Brook mandatory, will Golden Boy win the purse bid so that it is here or will Warren go out of his way to give Brook a hometown advantage? Lots of intrigue in the 2nd or 3rd tier welters for this poster.

Re: Bailey vs Alexander postponed.....
i feel like the only way a fight should be cancelled this close is for a real emergency. like he bailey cant stand up then i understand. i guess it always goes back to only fighting 2-3 times a year maybe. that means that for every fight you better be 100% or else it really hurts you to lose. if you fight 8 times a year then losing a fight because of injury can be a legit excuse and you can always bounce back from it pretty easily.
