Bute open to going to Denmark for Kessler Empty Bute open to going to Denmark for Kessler

IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24KOs), should he defeat Carl Froch (28-2, 20KOs) on Saturday night in Nottingham, is open to the idea of facing WBC silver light heavyweight champion Mikkel Kessler in Denmark, according to Bute's promoter Jean Bedard of InterBox.

Bedard was impressed with Kessler's one-punch knockout of Allan Green from Saturday night, and serious discussions have already taken place with Kalle Sauerland, who promotes Kessler.

There are issues that have to be sorted out. Bute is still contractually obligated to Showtime for at least one more fight. They would have to approve the fight with Kessler. Showtime took a pass on Bute's fight with Froch, which is now being aired on EPIX. There is also the matter of beating Froch. If the Bute loses, he is guaranteed an immediate rematch in Montreal and that would likely postpone the possibility of facing Kessler until 2013.

"We will gladly come to Denmark, if the money and the circumstances are in order," Bedard said to Peter Sloth.

"If Bute wins, we would be ready for meaningful negotiations with Kalle Sauerland and the major broadcasting companies. However, if Bute loses, then we have a clause that guarantees us a rematch in Montreal [if Bute loses]. In this case, the plans for a fight between Kessler and Bute will be put on hold for half a year's time."
