I really hope for Sergio's sake there are very rigid, binding terms in the contract such as:

DBE will provide a minmum purse of 3 million US dollars per fight. Any purse amount less than three million dollars will be made up personally by Lou Dibella. Lou Dibella pledges security to pay Sergio Martinez the difference should any purse be less than three million dollars US within 30 days of the completion of said fight.

also DBE will provide no less than three fights in one calendar year. Failure to furnish at least three fights in one calendar year will result in a penalty of three million US dollars by DBE to Mr Martinez.

and DBE agrees to stage a fight no longer than four months apart from any of Martinez' previous fights. Failure on the part of DBE to meet any of these terms will result in this contract being declared void at the option of Sergio Martinez.

I have a feeling Sergio is not going to fight 3X this year. If this is part of the contract, Lou is an idiot.

Fuck Manfredo, im offended that some of you would rather see that fight. Manfredo is a fucking bum, why the fuck does anyone wanna watch Manfredo get his ass beat again? most worthless fight ever, at least Baker is unbeaten. Still Pirog is a lot more deserving than most fighters out there. Lou is being a prick, we all know Pirogs slick style will present a lot of promblems to Sergio and Lou doesnt want to risk it. Lou is fucking up Sergio's career.

Rafael says HBO is pushing for Geale, but Geale has so far turned it down.

It seems whoever the champ lines up, HBO is going to reject. That's what happens when you are a foreigner and you KO one of their much hyped investments.

No, it's what happens when you tell Showtime to go fuck off, which is what DiBella did, and basicaly become HBO's bitch.

HBO didn't want Hopkins-Pascal, so Hopkins told HBO to fuck off, went to Showtime, we know the result of the fight. HBO realized like usual they dropped the ball, and offered four times as much for the rematch.

I agree. Lou didn't play it smart. I've wondered if there is more to that story behind the scenes. It just seemed so foolish the way Dibella shrunk the market for the middleweight champ.

I have no idea. Dibella is an ex-HBO guy, but he's worked with Showtime and Hershman many times.

I think it's just money. He knows HBO got the deepes pockets, and thinks Martinez is entitled to it. And no doubt Martinez wants to make as much money as he can even if it means being HBO's bitch boy.

So now, DiBella and Martinez look to the future and that means an October 1st bout is in the making.

"It’s going to be Darren Barker; it looks like and I believe it will be on HBO," said DiBella, who says that HBO’s approval of the Brit could come by Friday. "Frankly, we made another offer to- at HBO’s request- to Daniel Geale, who frankly, was another fighter that Sergio wanted to fight to, in effect, unify- even though he doesn’t technically have the [W]’BC belt, we don’t acknowledge [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr. as champion- and we tried to make the deal with Geale but Daniel wants to make the first defense of his title in Australia against somebody of less danger than Sergio before he takes on a challenge like Sergio, which I can understand. But right now, it’s looking more and more like Barker and I hope to have that wrapped up with HBO by tomorrow."

As for the venue, with the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles not available, DiBella says that it will "most likely" take place in either Las Vegas orAtlantic City.

But while Geale has possession of the IBF title belt, he is a virtual unknown to the boxing fans of America. Barker is equally as anonymous and holds no major title to speak of. This announcement was met with derision by boxing fans who expected more from the recognized middleweight champion of the world. However, according to DiBella, Barker brings an interesting backstory to the table and hardcore following that will journey to America for him. "At least according to Eddie and Barry Hearn, he’ll travel more people to the States than Carl Froch or Amir Khan did. That remains to be seen but it’s also going to bring over the entire British media with Andy Lee fighting on the card, which is also of interest to the British and Irish media."

Lee is expected to be paired up in a rematch with Brian Vera on this card.

When asked about the possibility of not getting HBO’s blessing for this card, DiBella stated without hesitation, "We’re fighting October 1st, period."

We’ve talked to Felix Sturm’s people; they couldn’t do the fight in the fall because of their commitment to German TV but they can come to America in his fight after next. Not after his fight against Matthew Macklin- which is in a few weeks- but he has to do one more fight in Germany and by next year, he can come here.

I don't blame Sturm for that. I blame him for sitting on his beloved trinket and fighting nothing but stiffs. And him getting shafted doesn't compare to the gift decisions he's benifted in Germany. His day of crying about getting robbed ended years ago.

He turned fights fights with Pavlik and flat out ducked Abraham. And that fight would have been in Germany.
