Sergio Martinez is targeting Chavez Jr vs Zbik winner or Rubio for Sept/Oct

if Chavez Jr. wins, he will avoid Martinez and we get Martinez vs Rubio. Man, can't he find a better opponent. Rubio is a tough guy who can fight, but he is going to get beatdown by Martinez.

Yeah Bob Arum won't let Jr anywhere near Martinez, he'll make more money off a Cotto fight in the fall.

Forget the bullshit of Paul Williams being the most avoided fighter in boxing. It's Martinez.

Sergio Martinez has become the fighter nobody wants to fight


Currently ranked the number two pound-for-pound best fighter in all of Boxing, Sergio Martinez and his camp are struggling to find a legitimate opponent. Since his torrid 2010, many of the top fighters in boxing have eluded Martinez and chosen easier fights. The latest fighter added to this list is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. On Saturday, BoxingScene.com reported that Martinez's agent said Cesar Chavez Jr. refused to agree to fight Martinez if he wins his championship fight on June 4th

Martinez's agent did state that Sebastian Zbik would fight Martinez if he can defeat Cesar Chavez on June 4th in the WBC middleweight title fight. However, Zbik is the underdog and many boxing pundits believe Chavez will win the fight but head in the direction of a showdown with WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

Sergio has called out everyone from Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. Martinez who last fought in March and destroyed previously unbeaten Sergei Dzinziruk, is looking to become the best fighter in the world. Unfortunately, he can't fight the other elite fighters to determine who's really the sport's best.

For a man who's willing to fight the best in two different weight classes, it has to be frustrating to know that many are "ducking". It's clear that Martinez has become the fighter that nobody wants to fight.

If Sergio is as good as I think he is, he should be the MW champ for some time to come. If that's the case, I think he possesses all the traits to become a star on his own, without any mega fights. He is feared, however I don't think it'll hurt his career too badly.

shouldn't he be looking for paydays? He's 35 and he just fought Cintron, PW, Pavlik, PW, and Dzinziruk.

I'd love to see him fight Sturm but we know that isn't happening even if he agrees to go Germany, take only 100k to fight Sturm, and agree to fight with one hand tied behind his back. Sturm makes too damn much money beating guys in Germany for his promotional company to dare put him in with anyone really good (like Martinez).

Alfredo Angulo ducked Martinez last year. Had the opportunity to make a nice payday and have a guaranteed HBO return date, but he declined.

The only way people will fight him are for big pay days. Angulo wanted a Mil, Willaims and Sergey got paid very good also. Pavlik didnt want a rematch and Williams didnt want one either for a reason.

Martinez-Baldomir will be fine for a homecoming fight if he wants but we know Dibella would never do it. Not enough money and no US network would air it.
