Disgusting WBC have stripped Sergio Martinez and made Zbik their trinket holder

On Tuesday, the World Boxing Council (WBC), in a letter sent by its president Jose Sulaiman, stated that unbeaten Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KO) is now the new "undisputed" world champion at middleweight. Zbik contributed since July 2009 after a victory at Nurburgring to win the interim belt of the WBC.

In October, Sebastian Zbik, in Cancun, was officially mandatory challenger by the WBC for the reigning world champion Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 26KO) from Argentina. But Martinez would not meet Zbik. The newly crowned WBC champion celebrated the new title with a round of champagne at the Universum Gym with his coaching team and the boxing colleagues. Zbik is now the first German boxer that holds the substantial belt and follows on big names to have held that WBC belt like Marvin Hagler, Carlos Monzon, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns and Bernard Hopkins.

Sebastian Zbik: "At last the long wait is over. I am very happy that I am now a true world champion. I've always said that I wanted to fight Martinez. I defended the interim title three times now. Therefore, I am glad that the WBC has now drawn their conclusions. I worked hard for 6 years for this day. Now the big moment finally arrives, it feels great. It is an honor for me to wear this traditional belt and I'm proud of myself to be classified at the world champion.

I'm looking forward to my first defense. I want to make my way to the WBC. But I can also imagine a title unification. Two middleweight championss live around the corner with Felix Sturm and Sebastian Sylvester. Both are afraid to fight me. But now I have this belt with a good argument on my side. Felix Sturm has so repeatedly announced to want to fight the best boxer in the class. Why did not he boxes against me, instead of "no-names" such as Lorenzo and Hearns? These are not world-class opponents. He knows the route to Hamburg very well. "

BoxingScene.com was advised that Sergio Martinez (46-2, 25KOs) has been elevated to the status of "Champion Emeritus" under the WBC. He receives an immediate shot at unbeaten Sebastian Zbik (30-0, 10KOs), who the WBC elevated from interim to full WBC middleweight champion.

Additionally, the WBC will likely place their "Diamond Belt" at stake when Martinez faces Sergei Dzinziruk (37-0, 23KOs) on March 12 at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The WBC's title situation sets up a scenario previously discussed on BoxingScene, where WBC silver champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will challenge Zbik for the full title. Chavez will fight Billy Lyell on January 29 in Mexico. Provided there are no injuries, Chavez's co-promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions will try to book a fight with Zbik for the month of May.

ABC organizations create Emeritus, super, regular and super champs to make more money. Zbik has been fighting cans for his interm defenses and for gaining his madatory shot and the WBC made money off all those fights. Now that Martinez is making money, there is no reason to completely strip him. The WBC is still getting a fee from his next fight with Sergie D and Sergio is making over a Million for it. Theyre also going to make money off the Chavez-Zbik fight and even more with the winner vs Martinez.

When Mayweather was the Welter WBC champ, many people asked why he was never strip despite having a mandatory for such a long time (Berto)? because Mayweather makes sooo much cash and the WBC wants a certain percentage off that cut, no reason to strip.

One thing that i liked hearing was this "We appreciate this decision by the WBC. We should have won, of course, but prefer the ring belt." some people see the importance of the Ring belt over the other belts.

ive always like the looks of the ring belt over the others.its been constant and attractive.the only change i see is that added photos of the fighters on the belt instead of the engraved brass..i liked it without the photos better.
