Did Roy just say what I thought he did ?

What are your memories of fighting Hopkins the first time around and how, if at all, do you perceive that his style changed in the second fight?
Roy Jones Jr.
(2:05 PM)
My first time, I was hungry, had to have the title. Wanted to win. I knew he was a straight up guy, and I knew I could beat him. The second time, I knew I could beat him, he was a good fighter, but I knew Golden Boy was behind him. He had the big promoter behind him. I knew I wasn't going to get a fair shake.

I think delusional, irrational self-confidence is a prerequisite to being an elite fighter. It's why it's so refreshing to see a guy like Froch whose world class but could admit when he got beat and vowed to learn from it and get stronger.

when you have a boxer that is realistic about what happened in a fight, then you have a rare boxer.
As for Roy, i think he goes eyond the normal boxer view that sees everything through rose colored glasses. Roy is a little delusional.
Jones, Toney, and BHOP. 3 hall of famers. Jones and Toney have stayed around 7-8 yrs too long and taken alot of damage that is going to hurt their quality of life. BHOP-hasn't taken the same damage, but fighting at 47, even if you aren't taking too many shots, isn't a bright idea.
It will be really sad when 5-6 yrs from now these guys are inducted into the hall of fame and they sound unbelievably damaged on stage.
fighters need to :1-save their money so they have the opportunity to walk away at the right time; 2-walk away at the right time.

I do feel like sportsmanship is something that is lacking in Boxing. Would be nice to see more guys like Ward and Froch fighting. They are good role models for their countries and the sport in general.

Will Ward still be a role model if he dumps Showtime and Bute for an HBO paycheck against Dawson ?
