LOOK WE ALL REALIZE FOR EXAMPLE HOPKINS MARTINEZ WLAD ARE CONSIDERED THE REAL CHAMP OR LINEAL CHAMP.LETS FORGET RING MAGAZINES BELT FOR NOW AND IN DIVISIONS WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL CHAMPS-BELT HOLDERS IS THERE ANYONE IN YOUR HEART THAT YOU FEEL IS THE REAL CHAMP.in mylifetime following the sport there are two i considered in my heart the real champ.the first was gene fullmer when the title was split between pender who was the lineal champ and fullmer the other champ.back then that was rare compared to today.i felt fullmer because he was the better fighter fought much stronger competion and beat pender when they were both contenders..the second is floyd mayweather.i feel today is the welter champ of the world.not the others.
does anyone here have a similar feeling or thought at all.again lets put aside rings champs for the moment.does anyone feel some fighter in there heart is the real champ dispite rings vacancy..if so could you give a few reasons why.

I can't really think of anyone else right now, because nobody in boxing is cleaning out their division to make a claim they are the real Champ.

You guys named the two I would pick. But to be honest I would never consider Floyd the real champ. The guy has avoided too many fighters.

i consider ward the real champ. i really dont think that you could make an argument that bute is more of a champ as ward. ward has beaten most of the top guys at 168 and is a top p4p fighter. then like grant said, i think that gamboa is featherweight champ.

I really want to agree with you. Before the super 6 I know we all thought that whoever came out of it was going to be the real champ there. But then Bute went on a tear and looked really good doing it. Thats a hard choice.

Mayweather is the "linear" Champ. But you can make the claim he isn't when he "retired" the first time.

But Jeffries was still considered the "linear" Champ when he came out of retirement and lost to Johnson. Same with Ali when he came back and lost to Holmes.

Fact is, nobody has made a claim to being the Welter Champ since Mayweather "retired." We won't have a definitive one until both Mayweather and Pac fight. Which isn't going to happen.

I hope you are wrong. I want them to fight and I think they will in November. I think Mayweather and Pac will get in the ring for an end of the year showdown.

not unless Floyd changes his tune. He said no 50/50. That makes negotiations a waste of fucking time, especially since 50/50 was agreed to before(or at least I thought it was reported as such).

The Bute/Ward argument is an interesting one for this topic. Bute was the "champ" before the super six ever happened and what he did outside of that tournament didn't hurt him any. Ward certainly has made his case as well. If Bute KOs Froch I still say he can make the more legit claim to being the Champ at 168; but until (and if) they actually fight it's still an open question.

so the weird thing about that is that if bute loses to froch, then ward would by default turn into the legit champ in the fans eyes?

Bute was not the "Champ" before the Super-Six. He wasn't even ranked at # 1. Kessler was. Not only be The Ring but any legit rankings. Kessler was the favorite to win the Super Six. And then Ward beat him.

Bute was #2 and wasnt even invited to the Super Six. To me, Ward is not the champ at 168 since he hasnt beaten Bute.

Bute was the "champ" in the sence of being a title holder, but no he wasn't #1 really before the Super Six. The fact that he wasn't included really skews this whole argument, but I tend to agree that Ward needs to beat Bute to be the clear #1.

That said, if Bute loses to Froch it pretty much does leave Ward as #1 by default.

HW - Wlad/Vitali
SMW - Ward/Bute (Ward can get it by default if Bute loses, if not he has to beat him)
MW - Sergio
JR MW -
WW - Manny/Floyd
JR WW - Bradley/Khan
LW - JMM/Rios (I don't think they can make the weight though) so... ____________
JR LW - Broner
FW - Gamboa
JR FW - Donaire/Rigo/Nishioka/Arce
Bantam - Moreno (by default)

how can khan be there if he just lost to peterson?

i forgot about mares though. he should be considered the bantam champ but he is fighting his next fight at super bantam.

This is all just my opinion. I had Khan beating Peterson on an off night so he's still up there for me. Mares is moving up so he doesn't get it (even if he did he'd be split with Moreno). If we're counting fighters who are no longer at the weight he'd have to split it with Donaire anyways.
