I think there are 2 reasons going against a Juanma-Gamboa fight. First, both are going to be moving up in weight soon. Juanma will be out of necessity but Gamboa wants to be a multidivision beltholder. Right now it would be hard to get the Salido fight in and find a suitable weight for the match. Second, I think Bob wanted Juanma to win it. He has seen how popular Cotto has gotten and how Ricans can support their fighter. Now it is evident to me that Gamboa would be a sizable favorite. Gamboa will never be the draw Juanma could be. Losing once and avenging the loss won't hurt Juanma's credibility too much but a devastating loss to Gamboa might do it.

i would still like the fight. just because juanma lost once doesnt mean they cant still fight.

to me it makes more sense than asking Gamboa to jump up rather quickly against a guy who is big for a LW.

I think Bradley would fight Rios. I know Rios puts an amazing amount of pressure on fighters but he won't be as big at 140 and will not be big at 147. Bradley has dealt with that size before and fights for 12 rounds because he doesn't have much power. I would have Bradley cruising to a comfortable UD over Rios.

Because Pac and Floyd and Khan and Bradley are going to fight. Third tier guys the the January fight. (Pac Floyd being first tier and Khan Bradley being the second tier).

it will be a good fight but i think that both fighters should fight other people. there are others at lightweight that i think rios needs to fight and gamboa should take an easier fight first before jumping 2 weight classes.

Who should either fight before January? Their names are hot, make it happen. Mitchell will get slaughtered, Guerrero is hurt, Marquez is busy, Demarco just had a war, Katsides is fighting Burns and no one cares about Miguel Vazquez.

Maybe Gamboa's team knows something I don't, but I don't see how he even challenges Rios. And if Rios wins it wouldn't do that much for him because he's so much bigger. It just doesn't make sense. The only outcome that would make noise is if Gamboa somehow won.

Acosta had Rios going for bit until the pressure got to him and Yuriokis has much quicker hands than Acosta

HBO is just looking for fireworks, and this kind of match-up has a good chance of producing it.

With time running out and opponents not finalized, Top Rank and HBO are moving a planned March 3 doubleheader featuring former lightweight titlist Brandon Rios (29-0-1, 22 KOs) and former featherweight titlist Yuriorkis Gamboa, who is moving up in weight, to April 14. Originally, the card was set to take place at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., but with a new date it is headed to Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. And instead of Rios and Gamboa fighting in separate bouts, there is now a chance they could meet each other at lightweight. HBO, Top Rank and Rios' team are on board with that plan, but Gamboa's camp still needs some convincing. Although Rios is coming off an 11th-round knockout of John Murray on Dec. 3 on the Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito II undercard, he was stripped of his belt for failing to make the 135-pound limit. But he is now working with a nutritionist and hopes to remain at lightweight. Gamboa (21-0, 16 KOs) has held two versions of the featherweight title but has been stripped of both belts.
