Trainer Amilcar Brusa dies

By Gabriel F.Cordero

Sad news from Argentina. Legendary boxing trainer Amilcar Brusa, who trained ring legend Carlos Monzon and thirteen other world champions, died Thursday in the city of Santa Fe in Argentina at the age 89 according to his family. A few days ago, Fightnews.com had reported that Brusa had been hospitalized with symptoms of acute bronchitis. Brusa was born on October 23, 1922 in Cologne Silva, a rural town in northern Santa Fe province. He had been an amateur heavyweight, but retired when he was unable to represent the country at the 1948 London Olympics. Brusa was a passionate man who contributed a lot to the sport. In 2007, he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York. In addition to Monzon, he trained world champions like Miguel Angel Cuello, Juan Domingo Cordoba, Jorge Rodrigo Barrios, Carlos Baldomir, Miguel Lora, Sugar ‘Baby’ Rojas, Thomas Molinares, Luis Mendoza, Rafael Pineda, Francisco Tejedor, Francisco Quiroz, Antonio Esparragoza and Antonio Carlos Hernandez.
