Mayweather PPV expected for 1.3 mill minimum
For those boxing fans who care, the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Victor Ortiz mega fight reportedly expected to bring in a minimum of 1.3 million pay per view buys and will likely go much higher when the final numbers are released. This is an excellent total of just a minimum, because Pacquiao’s fights have been hitting below that.
If the Mayweather vs. Ortiz PPV numbers can shoot up to 1.7 million PPV buys then it puts Pacquiao in terrible shape to ask for a 50-50 deal for a fight with Mayweather. There’s little chance of Pacquiao getting a 50-50 deal if he’s not bringing in the same PPV numbers. It matters little whether Pacquiao brings in more boxing fans to the fight itself.
What matters is who the PPV king is and if Mayweather once again outsells Pacquiao then it’ll be clear that Mayweather is the bigger money maker of the two.The importance of that is it puts Mayweather in the driver’s seat for getting a bigger cut of the revenue for a fight against the Filipino. Unfortunately, a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao will never happen once Mayweather’s PPV numbers are announced.
Once it’s clear that Mayweather is the bigger seller, he’ll likely never accept a 50-50 deal with Pacquiao. Why should he? If you’re outselling another fighter, you don’t give them equal pay. If Pacquiao isn’t willing to accept a 60-40 deal, then so be it. Mayweather can always find someone else that will take even less than that just to get a nice payday.
As for Pacquiao, he can finish up his career fighting guys like Timothy Bradley, Mike Jones, Brandon Rios and Miguel Cotto. Mayweather will dominate the welterweight division and make a bundle each time he fights. Mayweather doesn’t need Pacquiao at this point in his career to make huge money.

I think this fight will do 1.4 to 1.5 million buys. Dont sleep on the Pacquiao-Marquez fight, that will do around the same numbers if not more. Once HBO and other channels put out the 24/7 and the two previous fights of Marquez whooping Mannys ass, people will buy it.

Yup and Marquez is as popular as he can be in Mexico right now and like you said it will get a big push here with 24/7 and all of the Time Warner outlets

Good considering the mainstream media keep whining about Pac vs. Floyd.

That number is most likely bullshit. .The 1.3 buys came from Arum, not an official source. Getting any kind of legit numbers from Showtime, like ratings, is hard.
Numbers likely didn't make it public because I beleive they used a independant PPV source, not Showtime directly. Since Showtime had not done PPVs for years, and didn't have a PPV distributor.
Many think it might not have even gotten a million buys, and is why Arum took Pac and Cotto back to HBO.

neither one of them will settle for less than 50/50 so the fight wont get made if either one wont budge on the split.

The writer is horrible. I'm not referring to any bias, rather the wording used. There is more professional writing at a high school newspaper.

This is an excellent total of just a minimum, because Pacquiao’s fights have been hitting below that.
A revision:
The official numbers from the Floyd Mayweather vs Victor Ortiz fight have not been released, but it is expected to have generated a minimum of 1.3 million pay per view buys. When the final numbers are complied, it is expected to outdistance the recent Manny Pacquiao PPV contests by approximately _______ buys.
Revision:
When the final numbers are released, Mayweather will have demonstrated the ability to generate significantly more PPV revenue than Pacquiao. This indisputable fact will significantly decrease the likelihood of Mayweather accepting a 50/50 split in future negotiations.
The rest-so bad that it isn't worth revising in any way:
What matters is who the PPV king is and if Mayweather once again outsells Pacquiao then it’ll be clear that Mayweather is the bigger money maker of the two.The importance of that is it puts Mayweather in the driver’s seat for getting a bigger cut of the revenue for a fight against the Filipino. Better get use to this kind of hack "journalism" because it's taken over. Real journalist and writers are getting fired and replaced by cheap bloggers who get paid on how many hits they get.
I expect The Ring mag to turn into total shit in the upcoming issues after all the good writers got pink slips and will be replaced by online bloggers who likely kiss major Golden Boy ass.

Anyone getting 8 figures a fight every fight only needs an opponent. Pac and Floyd don't need each other.
