He's world fucking class. If you're ranked in the top five in that division you're world class. This is a way for cloud to prove that he's a top end fighter.

So it will be at 175. Anyone see that happening? He wants to move up and in his first fight at 175 he picks maybe the best guy in the division. If its true Bravo Bute.

And him going up to 175 really wouldn't be a big issue.
Bute's first couple years as a pro he was weighing in between 170 and 175 pounds.
Alot of the guys at 168 started their careers at 160 (some even below). Bute had to move down during his career to fight at 168.
He really shouldn't have been fighting the level of competition he has faced over the last few years. He should have jumped up to 175 for a decent fight instead of just treading water and waiting for the super 6 winner.

as my post explains it really isn't his first fight at 175.
When bute began his pro career, during 2003, 2004, and early 2005, he weighed in at the following:
173 3/4
171 1/2
173 1/2
171 1/2
173
171 1/2
171 1/4
170 1/2
175
174
I'm guessing his team saw that he could get down to 170 1/2, 171 1/2, etc. and said if you can make 168 you would be bigger than most of the guys there.

Re: Bute-Cloud in the works?
That makes more sense but It has been 6 years since he has fought there would that be an issue? I say make the fight happen. I am picking Cloud in a great fight with a ton of action.captainanddew wrote:Soonermark890 wrote:So it will be at 175. Anyone see that happening? He probably would feel very strong at 175.
I think the only issue would be his desire to go back to 168 afterwards. After you don't have to severely dehydrate yourself it has to be hard to force yourself to go back to that again.

Cloud runs roughshod over Bute. Imagine Andrade' with faster hands & more power. Cloud still has some work to do, but he'd eventually land on Bute.

What world class fighters has Bute beaten? Alverez is ranked in the top five by The Ring, Fat Dan, Boxrec, ect. He's even got a trinket. But most people wouldn't consider him world class at this point.
With rankings, it's more of a case of top ranked fighters rarely fighting each other to get more definitive ranking positions. Especialy in Jr Middle division where none of the top rank guys will fight each other.
Bute been ranked too high in my opinion to begin with. And has stayed in top rankings more by default because he was left out of the Super Six. So he hasn't had to face the top guys.
Beating Miranda, Brinkley, Magee, Mendy's of the division does not make you world class. Especialy when being saved from a KO loss by likes of Andrade.

Re: Bute-Cloud in the works?
Bute is a world class fighter. There is no questioning that.
Ranking him as the top super middleweight in the world is ridiculous. Let's realize the mf has been "champ" for 4 years. His best win was before he won the damn belt (Bika). I see every top 168-pounder fighting each other, except him.
He has looked good. He is a big draw and a talented guy. It also seems his team is vying for a fight against a difficult opponent, which is promising. As of now, there are still questions. He might be a frontrunner, a guy who looks great when allowed to gracefully box and showcase his ability. I just think the guy is wholly unequipped to cope with a guy who can make the fight ugly. He has this certain air of fragility that I think is gonna bite him in the ass before it's said and done.
Maybe I'm being too hard on him. He has improved and I like watching him fight, so why do I feel like giving him shit? Is it his face? Maybe it's his hair.

I won't consider Bute world class until he beats A-level opponents, which he has yet to do.
I have no idea how good or bad Bute is. Yes, he looks good against B-level opponents or below. So have a lot of guys before they stepped up.

Bute isnt moving up to 175, Cloud More likely for a Pascal fight in January
Don Majeski, matchmaker for IBF 168-pound champion Lucian Bute, told BoxingScene.com that Bute (29-0, 24KOs) is not going to face the IBF's 175-pound champion, Tavoris Cloud (23-0, 19KOs), on November 5th. In an earlier report on BoxingScene, Cloud's trainer Al Bonani stated that Majeski reached out to explore a possible Bute-Cloud encounter for the fall. No chance, says Majeski - and Kelly Pavlik is no longer a consideration after turning down a guarantee of $1.35 million dollars.
"Lucian Bute is waiting to fight the winner of the Super Six. Bute is not looking to move up in weight," Majeski told BoxingScene.com.
Majeski, who also works alongside former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (26-2, 16KOs), advised BoxingScene that Cloud was a strong possibility for a January fight.

I'm with you on this, flag. I'll go as far as saying I fear for "Bute" in this fight. I see it as a mismatch. Tavoris Cloud is much too strong for him. Bute is an excellent practioner of the sweet science and one of my fav fighters, but Cloud is way too much for him.flapanther2001 wrote:Cloud runs roughshod over Bute. Do you know who the second back-up preference for Bute is after Johnson if the deal can't get done?
Dan Rafael (12:15 PM)
No. Right now, it's Johnson but they are really battling it out over money. Based on what I hear, Glen is being seriously lowballed.

Re: Bute-Cloud in the works?
Beggars can't be choosers, if anything the Super Six was Glen's last lifeline, he should be grateful that this opportunity is even on his lap.
If I was in my forties coming off a loss, and a chance to face a top five trinket holder was offered to me I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Some of these boxers really are deluded, they need to climb down from their ivory towers and join the real world.

Johnson always does that Ali. He's been getting paid jackshit his whole career. Seems he just wants a payout before he officialy retires.
I got no prob with that

The Super Six was his payout, Glen was arguably finished when Dawson was done with him.
IF Glen pulls off the upset paydays will follow.
