This good example of current crop of lazy fighters. It targerts boxing's biggest most known offerender of this:

But the fact is, the most gifted fighter on the planet has fought just twice since 2007. He will be 34 this month, and the record suggests he’s spent more time in combat with the mother of his kids than he has in the ring.

As an alleged sportsman, there's an epic disgrace in Mayweather's idleness. I can’t recall an athlete in any sport who has done less with more in his prime.

This kid was possessed of greatness. Problem is, he’s not a kid anymore. He has no injury. He has no excuse. The fight game is only as big as its biggest fight. So don’t decry the state of boxing. Decry the state of Floyd Mayweather. That’s the problem.

Don’t be fooled by the championship belts he’s accumulated over the years. They’re impressive. As were many of his wins. Still, the body of work is considerably less than it should be. Ask yourself, what, if anything, do you remember of Floyd Mayweather’s career?

Wrestlemania? Dancing with the Stars?

....But back to Mayweather, who after taking a couple years off, says he’s taking another couple of years off. Does that mean he’s retired? Who else has turned his prime into this kind of irrelevance?

Even Mike Tyson, bent on self-destruction, fought 16 times after he got out of prison. Mayweather has fought 16 times in the last decade.

I’m sure he did have a great time in the owner's box at the Super Bowl. After all, if there’s one thing Floyd Mayweather knows how to do, it’s be a spectator.

Kinda harsh to pick on Floyd when he's already built a legacy and has money in the bank, he's at the end of his career and is comfortable.

They should be looking at guys like Berto and Williams.

It always upsets me when boxing fans take "Floyd Mayweather" seriously. Those boxing enthusiasts in their late teens or early 20's can't compare his attitude with fighters from any other era. If they could, they'd ignore him. I guess, after awhile, people can get used to anything.

PW 4 fights 2008, 2 in 2009, 2 in 2010. He should have fought more in the last few years. But he isn't Floyd. He fought Margacheato(back in 2007 when he was a monster that no one really wanted to face), Quintana twice(legit lower top 10 guy), Winky(yes he was old), Martinez twice, Verno Phillips(lower top 154), and Cintron in the span of 40 months.

PW didn't fight enough but damn, he was facing good competition. So while I say he needs to fight more, he certainly was living up to expectations of a fighter taking on good competition.

If Floyd was taking dangerous fights then all the inactivity would have been more acceptable. But he refused to face PW, Cintron, Clottey, Cotto, Margarito, and Pac for years.

If we made a list of the top 10 147 pound fighters of the last half decade, all of them would have been on the list.

i agree ali. i wouldnt say that floyd is wasting his prime because its already past, but he still has it. he has already created what he wanted for himself. he was a big name and got a ton of money and now i think that he just wants to be a part time fighter. thats his problem so ill deal with it. there are many other fighters in their prime that arent creating any sort of legacy for themselves and they will eventually be forgotten about. at least floyd used to fight.

It is the Mayweather effect though. all these young US fighters see what he's got and how he's got it by not fighting the best and cherry picking and thats what they want before they've even accomplished anything. look at Berto, look at Dawson, look at Dirrell, look at Williams and his diva-like demands to avoid a Martinez rematch, even Devon Alexander is somewhat heading that way. HBO have let these fighters do this, and because these young guys have all seen how good Floyd has had it with Al Haymon that's how they want it too. HBO have been a lot of the cause of these by over-paying for the fights, Al Haymon is bad for boxing too. Timothy Bradley and Andre Ward put all these guys to shame and are showing the rest how to lead by example. if the US could produce more fighters like these 2 extremely talent and GENUINE champions, then the landscape for boxing in the future would be a lot brighter

Haye's terrible for inactivity, he's been flat out lazy since he moved up from Cruiserweight.

Dawson is a perfect example. Even the bloody super 6, which had all points already agreed to in a master contract, is having six month gaps between fights. It is a joke.
