Sons of Fighters

Seems like lately we've seen a lot of children of former fighters try their hand at their daddy's craft

Jorge Paez Jr
Macho Camacho Jr
Shame Nosley Jr (lost amateur pro debut)
Omar Chavez
George Foreman's Kid
Hearns Jr
Pryor Jr
Wilfredo Vazquez Jr
Chavez Jr
Oliver McCall Jr

Im sure missing some but wondering, have we always seen this in boxing? Or is this a new trend?

This is nothing new. Difference is, these kids would get no attention, would lose a few fights against sub-par opponents, and quit.

Today, with all the trinkets awarding medicrity, these kids get more attention.

Example back when was one title, Bum Jr wouldn't be handed a title shot without doing jack shit. He'd had to have gone through the gauntlet of top fighters in the division to get a title shot. And he'd been exposed and gone a long time ago.

agreed. there have been many sons of fighters but today, fighters can be protected and fight total bums for the first 5 years of their careers and then be undefeated and get a title shot.

cerdan jr was another..look the fathers mentioned were greats or top elite fighters at one time.a son to follow in there footsteps is a handicap..its like sinatra jr...at least one son surpassed his dad that was ray boom boom mancini.

there are a few sons of fighters that were great but their dads usually werent that great. roy jones' dad boxed right? floyd mayweather is better than his dad and uncle. im sure that there are more but those 2 come to mind.

Buddy McGirt & McGirt Jr

A lot great fighter's had daughters that boxed. Ali, Frazier, Foreman. Even Archie Moore's daughter J 'Marie Moore aka Lady Mongoose took up boxing.
