30 day weigh-in weights
Dan Rafael
And wretched WBC also held same 30-day weigh in for Erik Morales (153) and Lucas Matthysse (147.5). Max allowed: 154.
Dan Rafael
The wretched WBC held 30-day weigh-in for @FloydMayweather & @ViouciousOriz today. Mayweather 149 pounds, Ortiz 157.4. Max allowed was 162.
Such a contrast in discipline, Floyd's only 2lb's over the Welterweight limit 30 days out.

Despite being at 147 for a while now, floyd is still a relatively small WW. Guys like ortiz and mosley will weigh upwards of 150 lbs on fight night, while floyd stays around 147 basically year round. Both sides have advantages I'm sure, its just interesting because you rarely see fighters fighting so close to their "walk around weight" these days

upwards of 150. Ortiz weighed 161 when he was in the ring with Berto. Berto was 155 or 156. Mike Jones weighs in the higher 150s when he gets in the ring. Floyd is a small welter, and by all accounts, walks around at just over 150 pounds (as he never lets himself get out of shape).

There is no way Flod was around 147 for the mosley fight. he looked like 160 easy

Then whats the excuse for Floyd not making 144 for the Marquez fight?

Re: 30 day weigh-in weights
Each fighter has his own way of making weight. Ortiz is at a higher weight because hes a bigger guy by nature. Floyd is a speedy athletic build, doesnt need the extra pounds on. Ortiz is a strong puncher, he needs a few more pounds on his frame. From the looks of their weights Floyd will probably weigh around the low 150's will Ortiz will be at the 160's come fight night. Floyd wont dehydrate very much, Ortiz will.Ali wrote:Dan Rafael

Re: 30 day weigh-in weights
This is why they need to go back to same day weigh-ins or at the least, a max limit on how high they can show up in the ring the day of the fight.
It's getting absurd. You got Bum Jr showing up for a middleweight fight weighing as high as a fucking Light Heavyweight

Re: 30 day weigh-in weights
Roy Jones, by his own admission, was a cruiserweight the night he fought Bernard Hopkins for the 160 pound title. Jones 186 Hopkins 165.
Pernell Whitaker was a guy who was never too far over weight. He was 150 tops as a welter between fights.
Holyfield actually LOST weight at heavy between fights when he quit lifting.
Hagler was never over 168 in his life. I was him last year and would bet he STILL isnt over 168.
Only guy I can think of who got CRAZy between fights was Duran. Who could pack on 50 pounds between fights.

I can see some value in a 30 day weigh in - at least you protect guys from crashing to make weight the day before the fight, which can be incredibly dangerous. I'd agree with making them weigh-in on the day of the fight as well though, to protect the integrity of the whole weight division idea.
