The fight desperately needs to be in Nottingham.

Yeah well. Showtime is a US network, so they want it in the US, because means more media attention in the US, and higher viewership. How big a gate is doesn't matter to them, outside it looks better on TV. Higher viewership does.
So yeah, I understand why they want the finals in the US

Damn this is the longest tournament ever. Ridiculous that it takes so long to have guys make their 4th fight in it.

logical sense would be for the fight to be in the UK strictly for a revenue purpose. but Showtime have done lots of shows across Europe for this tournament and the way Hershman has ensured that the show has gone in deserves for his life to be made easier with the semi-final bouts. especially if they are on seperate nights. a tape delay of the only main event fight would be pointless for Showtime. they need as much live viewership as possible to get interest for the final. Atlantic City is a good choice. neither Froch or Johnson have problems travelling so this is a great development. much better choice than Quebec IMO

Unfortunately Robin Hood has a scrap scheduled with the Sheriff of Nottingham that week, so it's out of the question.

Atlantic City is a good fight town, sure. But the big, lively crowds being drawn consistently in Quebec for the past several years makes it a hot location for any fight, especially this tournament. Johnson is Jamaican and Froch is English, so I unless you're going to have the fight in Nottingham as suggested, the best possible neutral site right now is Montreal or Quebec City.
That said, it's good for the sport to get a good card like this on the US east coast. I was selfishly hoping this was going to be Montreal so I could make the short drive and catch it

I see the concept of Showtime being a US network paid for by US subscribers is lost on some of you. Showtime wants the finals in the US because it will draw more attention if it is, especialy if it's in a major media market.

this is true. the semi-finals need to both be in the US and shown at primetime if the finale to the tournament is to be a success.

The guy that does the TV ratings at Boxing Truth did a good comparison between the rating you get if a fight is held overseas, in some small market Indian casino or in a big market city
Pretty much you can guarantee a million viewers if it's held in a big media market city. Worse rating of course is overseas fights, and Indian casino fights don't do much better unless big names are involved

I don't get that, so Froch vs Johnson will get more ratings if it's stage in America ? Are American's that xenophobic that they'll refuse to watch fights from overseas ?

If it was a big fight I could care less where it's staged, as long as it's live and being broadcast in HD.
It just baffles me because Froch vs Johnson is a fight between two non Americans, so it really shouldn't make a difference where it's staged. Showtime would still be broadcasting the fight with their production team.

it makes far more sense for Showtime for the fight to be held in the US. it would get much more attention then if it happened in Canada. Showtime need to get this fight out to the casual viewer in the US, this fight should do well and effectively it will have gotten the torunament's final bout a much greater audience

i have no problem with the fight held here or canada or the UK. if the fight was in canada i cant see anyway possible that it has less attention or viewing audience then the usa.we are giving to much credit to the so called media in drawing huge attention to this fight.hardcore fans are aware of the fighters and casual fans are just that casual.the general public could care less about this fight as well as many other good matchups.

+1 that's how I feel, fans will watch it regardless of the location.

Hardcore fans are not even 1% of the market, by just catering to us, to say you are limiting the audience is an understatement.
Showtime got 20 million subscribers, the majority you can bet are not boxing fans or casual fans. Casual fan does not go onto sites like this. They do not know when the fight is on, or likely what the Super Six is about.
That is why media attention is vital. If it's in the US the fighters will be available to the media. Especially if it's in a big media market
Showtime does not benefit from gate money or overseas ratings. They make their money by attracting and keeping subscribers, who are from the US.
I don't see Sky paying to have fights in the US
