1.Boxing Mags are probably the most popular commodity in most jails these days with the “Pin Up Boy” being Floyd Mayweather.
2.Looks like they have Mike on some good meds these days. Doesn’t matter. Right now, Mike is thinking “They’re getting in the way of who I am.” Look for trouble soon.
3.Showtime’s stealing HBO’s fire in a big way. HBO must be desperate for Wlad and Haye to get together on their network even though most general sports fans will show little interest. Pac is an influential fighter and his move to Showtime creates a nightmare scenario for HBO.
4.Few things in boxing can be called “sure things” these days. However, I think Sergio Martinez will be a dominant and exciting MW champ for the next 5 years.
5. For wall those folks who dislike Freddie Roach, you're wasting your time talking about him. Two things are important to Freddie at this point in his life. (a) The Women in Manila (b) Viagra
6.Love him or hate him, Bernard Hopkins should be a dominant force in the sport until the age of 50. If he can get up the guts to fight “Tavoris Cloud” and win, (which I think is a possibility) he’ll be above reproach. If he wants to do this, the time is now.
7.Seems like Chad Dawson has decided to destroy his career. Too bad. Guy had some real talent there.
8.Look for Glen Johnson to make one final statement before his downfall or retirement. I’d say at this point, anyone who matches their fighter against “The Road Warrior” is a damn fool. Nothing to gain and everything to lose…..and most likely, they will lose.
9.Question. How much can Larry Merchant drink before he passes out behind the mike? I like Larry, but I think that unfortunate possibility happens sooner than later. It will prove to be a very powerful metaphor for the future of HBO’s boxing program.
10.Can somebody PLEASE bring back USA Network’s masterpiece theater, “Tuesday Night Fights.?" Hell, I’ll do the show myself if the budget’s right.

Re: Random thoughts
I'm happy to see Frank not taking any heat for reason #1.
Just proves my point that this is a Floyd hating site.
I'm a Floyd hater as much as the next guy. But a post like this slides by without a hiccup.

Ok- Let's substitute Kirkland for Floyd. Is that as funny? At least Kirkland is a two time loser. Just doesn't have the same panache.

Exactly my point. I'm disgusted I have to defend him.

Re: Random thoughts
I wonder if Mike's new found affable personality is down to his vegan diet.
Martinez Middleweight champion for five years so by the time his reign has ended he'll be 41, I'd love to know what Sergio's secret is.
You deliberately wrote eight to give me panic attacks
You know it's crazy how recently that female anchor lost the control of her speech live on the air, but each time Larry appears he can still hold it down know matter how many gins he had for breakfast.

I mean really we make fun of a lot of guys not just Floyd. I personally dont make fun of hardly any fighters except David Gaye (and that is just to fuck with Ali).Norm1023 wrote:Soonermark890 wrote:I would find it funny if it was kirkland also. Disagreed with most of the post.
I like Floyd. It's just not worth starting an argument that I have no chance of winning and until he's relevant to the sport he's not worth talking about. If someone wants to talk to Floyd they can use the forum twitter account and try to get his attention, but if they're just using him as a way to vent then at least he's providing something in his absence. I don't need to defend Floyd, he's been criticized his whole career and he's still managed to get by just fine.
I think Tyson will be alright. He's finally getting treated like a human being and he's not desperate or angry anymore.
Freddie's comments don't hold water but he always sticks by his fighters, and it's hard to get to mad at him given how hard he must have to work to train at his level with his condition.
I think giving Bernard and Sergio another 5 years is a bit much, and I think Froch will beat Glen convincingly. As for Larry, they'll let Max replace him as soon as he slips. Chad still has time to figure things out.
I'm actually cool with the number of fights we're getting this year. Every network has been putting on quality bouts on a fairly consistent level and the Pac fight is going to get great exposure for the sport.
