This is why HBO lost Pac to Showtime
Great aritcle comparing how HBO and promoters handled Taylor-Pavlik I by having it in Atlantic City in front of lively crowd, and the fight was well promoted, compared to now
HBO has hyped the Bradley-Alexander matchup by… well, it’s on their schedule, so that’s good. And they sometimes even have commercials for it. And there are plenty of articles and videos about it on their Web site, though I know few fight fans that regularly frequent the HBO Boxing Web site.
But since starting the critically lauded 24/7 series in 2007, HBO has gradually stopped producing the excellent half-hour Coundown shows they used to put together for nearly every big fight. Because 24/7 is much more expensive than the Countdown shows, HBO reserves 24/7 for potentially lucrative pay-per-views. Thus, major HBO World Championship Boxing cards like Bradley-Alexander receive no extended promotional hype from the network. None. And they wonder why ratings are down.
It should be noted that HBO aired a Countdown special for Pavlik-Taylor I before that fight.
Just as the Pavlik-Taylor I fight poster perfectly embodied the hype and anticipation for that matchup, so too does that Bradley-Alexander poster speak to the laziness and general ineffectiveness of the promoters in stoking interest in this fight. Poor poster, poor planning, poor promotion –.

It's sheer incompetence on Greenburg and Davis part for not doing a countdown to promote Bradley vs Alexander.

Incompetance on all levels. From Shaw, King, and HBO.
Shaw and King for having the fight in Detriot. All they cared about what fat site fee, not getting asses into seats. Which Shaw saying just that, he doesn't give a fuck if nobody was at the fight.
Incompetance in HBO for giving both fighters two-given dates after the fight. Basicaly rewarding the loser with another big HBO payday. Can bet that played a big part in Alexander quitting. I bet he'd fought harder if he knew he might not be on HBO again.
And incompetance in promoting the fight on their network. Greenburg has no creativity at all. He can't think outside the box, like Ken Hersmash can. And why SHowtime is superior.

King can be excused considering he just lost his wife, plus I think I saw him on Fox News trying to promote the fight.

Yeah, King been horribly for boxing, but the man does know how to promote. He's 100 years old, so naturaly he's lost a few steps.
Shaw completly sucks though

Gary Shaw is just a fat greedy hack, he ran Elite into the ground and wants to bring Kimbo into HW boxing

Not only that, look at the fighters he promotes. None of them are big names, because failed on all levels to make them big names.
Seriously, Top Rank and Main Events and in some cases DiBella are only promoters that know how to build up name fighters.
Main Events is the best at building up local fanbases for their fighters.

Forget the marketing, HBO tried to force a big fight with their current shit strategy
Pavlik earned his title shot and Jermain was defending his title after dethroning Hopkins
