Unbeaten Featherweight Miguel Angel Garcia is slowly moving towards a world title fight. However, Garcia will need to defeat another unbeaten fighter, who is also vying for an opportunity to fight for a title. Garcia (24-0, 20 KO’s) will take on Matt Remillard, who recently signed with Top Rank, on March 26th, Cameron Dunkin told Fightnews.com.

The intriguing bout, which will be part of an HBO doubleheader, will be the opening bout prior to featherweight world title holder Yuriorkis Gamboa defending his belt against Mexican contender Jorge Solis. Although contracts are not signed yet, both Garcia and Remillard and their respective parties have verbally agreed for the fight to take place.

“Both sides have accepted the fight verbally,” said Dunkin, Garcia’s longtime manager. “The Gamboa-Solis fight is not officially signed, but it looks promising as well.”

No word on whether the fight will be an eliminator or a 10 round fight.

“That is something I will need to speak about with (trainer) Robert (Garcia),” continued Dunkin, who also manages Timothy Bradley, Nonito Donaire, Steve Molitor, and James Kirkland among others. “It will be either a 10 round bout or a 12 rounder.”

Garcia is coming off a fifth round knockout over Olivier Lontchi in December in Anaheim, on the undercard of the Humberto Soto-Urbano Antillon world title bout. Garcia resides in Oxnard, but has trained in Riverside within the last year.

Remillard (23-0, 13 KO’s) has fought most of his bouts in the New England area. He was victorious in his last bout in November, easily defeating Oscar Cuero by unanimous decision.

Although the Top Rank card has been rumored to take place in Atlantic City, NJ, Dunkin told Fightnews.com that there is no site yet.

“That is yet to be determined where the fight card will take place.”

Should Garcia come out victorious against Remillard, Dunkin is hoping to get Garcia a shot at a world title belt. Recently, featherweight world title holder Juan Manuel Lopez has been seen at ringside for Garcia’s most recent fights.

However, Dunkin is open for Garcia fighting any of the world title holders.

“We hope that Mikey gets a shot at a title on June 11th on the proposed Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito fight. But, we will wait and see.”

Really good HBO-Top Rank double header
