Lucian Bute could face Brian Magee on March 19th

@danrafaelespn Lucian Bute's next fight, the first on his new deal with Showtime @ShoSports, is supposed to be March 19. Possible opponent: Brian Magee.

I know nothing about Brian Magee, other than from this:

lol, all I know is he's the European 168lb champ.

Honestly, my patience with Bute is running thin. He is one of the best out there, I like watching him fight, but avoiding the Pascal fight and then this?

If you took away some of his skill, gave him a big ignorant mouth, and had him start calling out all of the best fighters in the division saying he was going to save boxing and rid the sport of these dreadful champions, only to have him cower or price himself out when offered a big fight- you'd almost have David Haye.

Yeah, I know he went rounds with Froch before getting KO'd. Haven't really seen much of him though.

I dunno that you can lay too much blame on Bute for the Pascal fight not happening - that's on GYM and Interbox squabbles IMO.

But I agree he really should step up more than this. Still, given that the top of 168 is tied up in the tournament there aren't a whole lot of options at the moment. And I honestly don't know how much of a soft touch Magee really is.

Yeah, i went a bit overboard disrespecting him by mentioning him in the same paragraph as Haye... But he needs to step it up.

and you call yourself a fight fan??? Magee is actually a pretty decent and seasoned fighter. he got crushingly KO'd by Carl Froch in the 11th round of a battle, typical Froch fashion. watch the KO punch it was a "put you to sleep" shot. Magee has been on a good run of fights though, having to travel to German fighter's backyards and KO them to keep his career going. he deserves a decent payday but ultimately i don't think he has enough to worry Bute

I will watch this fight. Seems like a fair opponent on a good run a la Brinkley. I hope he gets Stieglitz before the Super 6 wraps up.

Allen Green, Librado Andrade or puss boy Dirrell should of been the likely opponents. Showtime is really paying him millions to take on guys like this?????

allan Green is an inferior opponent to McGee, and is coming off of back to back ass kickings.

Bute has already beaten Andrade twice in the last 2 years.

Dirrell is a disgrace to boxing and is too busy faking a brain injury.

Interbox has made several offers to Stieglitz - he doesn't want any of it.

...not alot of choice.

Green is done and Bute already beat Andrade twice. As for Dirrell who knows what he's doing.

Magee isn't a bad choice of opponent. he's having a good run at the moment, top 10 ranked and he deserves a shot. there's nobody else available for Bute right now to be fair. i think 2011 figures to be an excellent year of fights in the Super-Middleweight division

yeh but who is there realistically ready to fight Bute?? i don't think anybody is expecting Magee to beat Bute so that's less pressure on him, probably his final decent payday so you never know. if everybody wasn't tied up in the super 6 or suffering from bouts of amnesia then you'd have to say it wouldn't be credible

Magee is a seasoned pro. he's only lost to Champions. he's having a good run of form at the moment, current European champion, he got a couple of good wins on the road, he's ranked 9 or 10 by Ring magazine, 30+ fight record. he went 11 rounds with Froch and was pretty competitive and he was a pretty well decorated amateur. he's not a complete bum, just think his career has had bad timing

best of a bad situation IMO. keeps him busy and it's all experience. there are some great fights around 168 and 175 when the super 6 is finally done
