Thurman vs Chaves was a pretty good fight for 8 rounds. Then Thurman hurt him to the body late in 9th and finished him in 10th.

Figueroa vs Arakawa(sp?) was sick. Don't know how Ara was still standing. Phone booth battle all night.

Berto vs Soto Karass- That was fun. SK hurts berto early. Berto hurts his shoulder in 3rd or 4th round. SK seemed to have a lead in my view (on twitter a lot had it 7-3 SK after 10). Berto scores a knockdown in 11th (though SK argued it was low). SK lands a left hand in 12th that destroys Berto. Fight over.

Scary part is the scorecards after 11. 1 judge had it 105-103 SK. 1 had it 104-104. Another had it 105-103 for berto.

there is no way in hell that berto should have been winning that fight on a scorecard after 11 rounds.

Thankfully SK ended it so he didn't get screwed.

It was one of the most retarded things I've ever seen. Berto was being destroyed (again). I'm so glad Soto Karass finished him off and didn't give the judges a chance to steal it from him and give the win to that overhyped bum Berto. Good for Soto Karass.

I can't believe they had the Berto fight that close. Andre is actually lucky to be alive.

I had sk up by 3 points going into the last round.i scored rd 11 10-9 for berto.sk took over big the last minute of the round.he averaged over 115 punches a round landed several great body shots and several good shots to bertos head.a draw or berto ahead going into the last round is awfull suspect judging.good fight and great heart by berto.

my 6 yr old saw that I was watching round 1 of the fight again this afternoon. I asked him to sit and score the fight. He has a general idea of scoring fights from watching a few fights in the past year and video games (where they score rounds). Nothing else.

he was really unsure of how to score the 11th round. He referred to them as the skinny guy (SK) and the big dude (Berto-because of the muscles). He knows if you knock a guy down and win the round you win 10-8. He got confused and said that the big dude knocked the skinny guy down, but then the skinny guy beat the big dude up. He was right.

I told him he could make it 10-9 for Berto or 10-8 (which is what many judges would still do). He made it 10-8, but I could tell he was still not sure what to do.

His scorecard was 105-103 for SK (he tried to add 10 points for SK for round 12-but I had to explain you don't score a round when it is a KO, as it is just a KO and a win).

I didn't say a word during the fight. There was no volume on. He had no like or dislike for either guy. He doesn't have a preference for body shots or head shots. No preference for boxers or brawlers. My kid is basically a blank slate at this point.

When I told him one of the 3 judges had the big dude winning he looked at me, cocked his head to the side, and said, "that is pretty crazy."

he loves sports. I asked him when he was 3 did he like to watch sports. He said, I LOOOOVVVVEEEE to watch sports. That and numbers. He'll sit and watch a baseball game and keep score in his own screwed up way.

Great fights. I just finished watching the Showtime card. WOW

Gotta hand it to Berto that was an amazing effort. BTW I think a two handed Berto beats Soto-Karras.

Anyone think that Berto could have continued? I am not saying it was a bad stoppage but in a war like that you got to give him a standing 8. I think Berto was right on that one. The ref should have took his time and gave him a standing 8 let him walk to him to see if he was ok.

Agreed. Berto won a couple of rounds but that's about it. One good thing is the right guy won thank god.

a few thoughts.

first off, i dont care how many losses somebody has. they can still make great fights and i will still watch them fight. i gained a ton of respect for berto. he isnt the greatest fighter but is still a live dog against most fighters unless this fight took everything out of him. i agree the the stoppage fully. berto seemed wobbly when he got up and i trust that the ref who was right by him saw something even more than i did.

keith thurman is a tough guy. he kept going even when i thought that he was getting beat pretty handily after the first few rounds. he then stepped it up and won. that shows a lot. i wouldnt mind seeing the other guy fight again though.

the figueroa fight was hands down FOTY. i dont think its even close. i cant see any fight being better than that one. it was non stop war. i cant believe that arakawa actually withstood that punishment. both guys showed a ton of heart. my wife tried to talk to me during the fight and i had to tell her to be quiet because this fight was too good for her to be talking to me.

this is a question but the announcers said that broner isnt vacating his belt at 135. im thinking that they said that the winner of the figueroa fight would fight broner. if true, i would be super excited for that fight. call me crazy but i think that figueroa gives broner a ton of problems. broner has problem with high volume punchers who will pressure him. i would still pick broner to win but figueroa would make broner work his butt off.

this was literally the best boxing card i have ever seen. every fight was not just good but great.

The ref could've stopped that fight at almost any time. Berto was done. He was brave, but getting pounded.

Berto has been fun.

He was hyped by his team and HBO as an elite fighter and a future star. They were wrong. He didn't deserve the decision against Collazo years ago. He then lost to Ortiz, Robert G, and Soto-Karass. His 4 best opponents beat him.

Nothing wrong with a guy not being elite. The problem is all the hype. I've enjoyed his efforts and willingness to give it his all (can't argue that he didn't).

I think Berto is just about done. He never was great at taking a shot. He has been getting beaten up for the last few years. What chin resistance he has left is probably going to go away very soon.

I sincerely hope he saved his money and can live a full life outside of the ring (I get the feeling many boxers who end up basically retired by the sport by age 30-which he very well may be, end up having a very hard time dealing with how their career turned out).

Al Haymon had those judges in his pocket. However, had Berto finished the fight on his feet he would have still lost a split decision. I'd love to see Soto-Karrass fight Victor Ortiz next. That would be a very good fight. What I dont like about Soto-Karrass is, he's a very inconsistent fighter. Every year or so he upsets some fighter with hype and then loses when he steps up. I think he needs to take his career more seriously. He's a decent fighter and will continue to make good money if he keeps fighting the way he has been lately.

Figueroa vs Crawford, I want to see that fight for Broner vacant tittle. I think Figueroa would beat Broner at lightweight. He has the style and toughness for it.

Thurman is a very good contender. I think he can beat most of the top guys in the division. This guy isn't fighting bums like Broner is and he is a Al Haymon fighter. Haymon knows he doesn't have to protect Thurman from tough competition like does with Broner.

he has started taking his career seriously in the last year. He is only boxing now.

Mark- Berto had 2 hands in the first 3 rounds. He was getting his ass beat in 2 of those rounds. He fought valiantly with 1 hand, but he was going to lose. He doesn't have great punch resistance and the tough Collazo fight and the brutal Ortiz & RG fights have taken something out of him. He's an old 29.

As for Sith Lord Haymon, fuck him. Sick of him. Screwing over fans with his crooked scorecards.
