Malignaggi vs. Senchenko in talks

Negotiations are ongoing to match former IBF junior welterweight titleholder Paulie Malignaggi against unbeaten WBA 147-pound beltholder Vyacheslav Senchenko, THE RING's No. 5-rated welterweight from the Ukraine, according to Golden Boy Promtions CEO Richard Schaefer.

"Negotations going on. Paulie Malignaggi has been named as the mandatory for the WBA's champion at the WBA's convention," said Schaefer. "The WBA champion is Senchenko. So we are currently in negotiations with Senchenko's promoter and trying to see that that fight can be made."

The 33-year-old Senchenko (32-0, 21 knockouts), who is trained by Freddie Roach, made the third defense of his belt with a sixth-round knockout of Marco Antonio Avendano in August.

The 31-year-old Malignaggi (30-4, 6 KOs) has won three consecutive welterweight bouts since losing by 11th-round knockout to WBA/IBF junior welterweight beltholder Amir Khan last May.

Malignaggi, whose birthday was on Nov. 23, is coming off a one-sided 10-round unanimous decision victory Orlando Lora on Oct. 1.
