Rios vs. Murray in the works for Dec 3rd ?
WBA lightweight titleholder Brandon Rios, of Oxnard, Calif., could face once-beaten Johnny Murray of Manchester, England, on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito rematch, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
"That's what I was told yesterday," said the source. "There is no contract signed, but that's the opponent being considered."
ESPN.com also reported the possibility.
The 26-year-old Murray (31-1, 18 KOs), THE RING's No.8-rated lightweight, suffered the sole loss of his 32-fight career in July, an eighth-round knockout loss to Kevin Mitchell (32-1, 24 KOs).
The hard-hitting Rios (28-0-1, 21 KOs), ranked by THE RING as No. 1 in the division, will be after his 11th win in a row and his 10th consecutive knockout.
The lone blemish on Rios' record is a 10-round draw against Manuel Perez in October of 2008. After that, he reeled off six consecutive knockouts before scoring a seventh-round, disqualification victory over previously unbeaten Anthony Peterson (32-1, 20 KOs) in a WBA eliminator bout in September of last year.
Rios followed the win over Peterson with a fourth-round knockout of Omri Lowther on the undercard of a unanimous decision victory by Manny Pacquiao over Margarito for the since-vacated WBC junior middleweight belt in November of last year.
Why go for the guy who just lost ? Mitchell makes more sense for Rios.

Warren must have other plans for Mitchell, maybe the Burns-Katsidis winner
Still a solid fight for the Cotto-Margarito under card

That's a good call, I can totally see Warren planning that.
Yeah it'll be fun for a couple rounds but Murray will get destroyed.

Guerrero would probably be the only Lightweight I'd pick against Rios at the moment.

and fought a HOF boxer in Floyd, beat Berto when he was expected to get killed and fought the dangerous Maidana and wanted a rematch with him after, something your boy Khan is afraid of.gomez1012 wrote:Diego408 wrote:Because uncle Bob said so. Guerrero and Soto both beat him. Maybe even Linares. Everyone at lighweight have already been beaten like pinatas (ex Antillon)Hagler's Bald Head wrote:Guerrero would probably be the only Lightweight I'd pick against Rios at the moment.

Re: Rios vs. Murray in the works for Dec 3rd ?
I'm interested in the turnover at lightweight in the ring magazine rankings. Soto is already gone. JMM and Guerrero should be soon. I think Rios will outgrow it in 2 or 3 fights. Mitchell and Acosta would be the 2 highest rated fighters then. I think Linares, DeMarco, Burns, and Katsidis have something to say about that.

I like what the HBO guys said about Linares, he had the ability like Khan from the gate and is coming back from a first round KO. I hope he can come back like Khan also under Roach.UBeeg9cats wrote:I'm interested in the turnover at lightweight in the ring magazine rankings. Soto is already gone. JMM and Guerrero should be soon. Linares isn't ready for Rios yet, he needs a year of Wild Card sparring first.
