Hyped Prospects - More Likely Bust

Deontay Wilder - Olympic Medalist hasnt done much in the pros. Promoted by GBP, has had a few FNF appearances vs no hopers. Nice right hand, but a very raw and small HW. Might be better off at cruiserweight

Demetrius Andrade - Olympic Golde Medalist with plenty of talent. Under Star Boxing he's looked good crushing tomato cans on FNFs. Remembered for struggling vs Geoffrey Spruiell in a 6 round bout where he had to have his corner tell him "he's the best" to win. Spruiell went into the fight with a 8-8 record w/2 KOs.

Frankie Gomez - Prospect who looks like he could be a fan friendly fighter with an aggressive style. Has fought scrubs on GBP's barely seen Fight Night Club. Was reportedly given $350k signing bonus and is taking it easy now.

Jose Benavidez - Internet hype from videos of his sparring at the Wild Card Gym vs Manny Pacquiao. Impressive performances in his first 12 pro fights. Split with Freddie Roach according to reports because of an overbearing father. A ton of talent.

Well according to Dans article, he was the #1 Amateurin the world or some shit like that. He Beat Benavidez in the Amateurs also. Ive seen him fight 3 times and I didnt see anything special about him.

I voted Andrade because the last time I heard of him he got a gift decision over some bum. Wilder is young enough to avoid the Klitschkos, so he has a good chance of at least doing something in the sport. Shelly Finkle is managing him and GBP is his promoting him. At best he'll become a strap holder type of fighter.

Benavidez jr will be a star, you can bet your money on it.

Agreed, he seems like a wild swarming kind of fighter. I think that if he fights someone with technique a little pop he'll lose. He is only 19 though. Benavidez looks like the truth, I just hope his father doesn't ruin him.

I'd go with Andrade, I remember him struggling against a can one night, and the guy started clowning around and fucking with Andrade. Allowing some bum who was supposed to be KTFO that night to hang around like that made me believe that he will never be a big star.

Wilder will eventually be exposed. I feel the whole '08 USA team will never make it past the club level.

Gomez may be good, but he's getting waaaaaaay to much $$$ than he's really earned (not that I blame him, it's more Oscar's fault)

Benavidez seems like a good talent, but having a nutcase father can certainly derail any career.

Ali looks like the best of the bunch, but even he doesn't seem that good. He doesn't jab with a great bit of authority and tries to use a slick Naz style defense, only he's no Naz.

Wilder for sure. He knocked down and nearly knocked the fuck out by a bum with a 17-20-2 record. Since then he's fought just high calibor guys with records of 11-38-0, 15-6-0, and 6-6-0

Wilder isn't getting down to cruiser at his height. He will grow into his frame. He doesn't have good footwork, needs to strengthen his base, and refined. Probably won't happen until he gets a new team handling and training him. Current team hasn't helped him improve.

Gary Russell Jr. is fighting tonight. I think he's the best of the bunch. He should be stepping up his competition by next year. Warren's not even a pro yet and he might be the most talented. Molina and Estrada will be better than club level. Same with Ali, if he can get stronger he could make something of himself. I think Wilder and Andrade are the most likely to fail because I don't think they have the mental make up.
