Lights Out Canceled :(
FX turns out the lights on 'Lights Out'
Comments (0) (2)(2)March 24, 2011 | 1:29 pm FX has given up the fight on its boxing drama, "Lights Out."
The critically praised but little-seen series will not return for a second season
The series, which starred Holt McCallany as a former heavyweight champion attempting a comeback after five years out of the ring, earned some positive reviews but could never catch on with a large audience.
FX President John Landgraf said in January that the series presented a challenge but that he was hopeful it would catch on despite a low-rated premiere. "Maybe we should have made a show about a zombie or a sexy vampire who is trying to regain the heavyweight championship of the world," he quipped.
The final two episodes will air March 29 and April 5 at 10 p.m.

Re: Lights Out Canceled :(
I'm holding out hope that another network picks it up. Direct TV, which picked up FX's cancelled Damages, seems to be putting their feelers out on it.
DirecTV puts out feelers on canceled 'Lights Out,' some thoughts
Rival network/provider DirecTV (Channel 101) wasted no time fishing on Twitter, wanting to hear from fans and critics alike:
@DIRECTV
"FX cancels "Lights Out," what's your reaction?"
DirecTV of course picked up the cancelled "Damages," and have enjoyed tremendous success with the popular drama starring Glenn Close.

Be awsome if they pick it up. If not them, Showtime should pick it up. It would fit right into their programming. Put it on before or after a Showtime fight.

It's on Channel 101 — a DIRECTV-exclusive channel

The thing I wonder, and we'll soon find out, is were they going to have him win the championship in the first season. I don't want him to because there is not much more story to tell after that. ESPN did that mistake for another 1 season show in Tilt and I wasn't interested in a 2nd season anyways.

I think there's a lot of ways they could go if he fights Death Row.
What if Lights ends up killing him in the ring, and the season ends like that? Second season would been him dealing with that, and the pressures of being HW Champ again while trying to maintain a normal family life. Add on, fighters coming out left and right challenging him to fight. Kind of like with everyone wanting to fight Pac right now.

RIP. I thought it was going to end with Lights getting knocked out AND going to jail. Literally, Lights Out. I think they could have paced the show to fit in one season and ended with the title fight. Solid show though. I think it was a great show for casual fans too.

Re: Lights Out Canceled :(
I've never been this bummed out over a show getting cancelled as I am now. It realy sucks.
TV is so full of shit. All reality TV bullshit. It's pathetic that a great show like this getting cancelled yet fucking Jersey Shore pulls in huge ratings.
The typical American viewing public are a bunch of fucking morons is all I can say.

I'm a little bummed, but there's a lot of good tv. Every show I watch now I hold up against The Wire: http://www.simplyscripts.com/2009/04/18/the-wire-bible/. That's how you write script that can't fail.

I was talking basic and cable TV. Only good scripted shows on TV now are on premiem channels like HBO or Showtime it seems.

They were in a no win time slot. Teen Mom and BET's The Game were whooping ass in the ratings.

I agree. Why I was hoping FX would see that, and put the second season on after Justified.
Wishful thinking, but here's hoping Direct TV or another network saves the show

Canceled before it even reaches my shores
Your networks are brutal, why I only really invest in Showtime and HBO shows.

The final was haunting. Such a great show. Way to go FX
I read the show's producer now wishes the show was on Showtime

Re: Lights Out Canceled :(
well at least it ended without leaving us hanging who won the fight.to me it was a showtime type of program.it may have seen one more season with them..showtime had a great show that had 29 episodes only in 3 years called brotherhood.it came when hbos sopranos was leaving and it was excellent but cancelled also..lights was doombed to start.a great show but 1.it eliminated the under 18 auidience which was ok cause of so called adult material..the genre boxing also reduced much of the female audience and perhaps the older folks .leaving a targeted audience of males only and at a certain age...brotherhood on the other hand had better scripts with sub plots.it developed there characters fully.the genre was actualy 2.politics and crime-gangsters..one brother was a top state politican who was a nice guy and semi-honest.straight as a cork screw..the other a major player in the irish mafia..its targeted audience had a much larger range yet only 29 shows...a shame cause both shows were exceptional quality.a shame it was put against not one but 3 shows that did well on tuesday night.

Not to mention it fit into their programming. Christ they had the Showtime crew announcing the fights on the show. They could have put the show on after or before a Showbox fight. And have Holt as a guest announcer like he did on FNF

Great ending. I have no problem with it being cancelled because they told the whole story. If they had designed the show for one season from the get go it could've been much better.

Re: Lights Out Canceled :(
The producers said the second season would be about the two promoters battling it out, and Lights trying to hide his declining mental health while wanting to defend his title. And I guess his borther Johnny starts to get jelouse at Lights success as the HW Champ.
He said the episode where Light has his buddy with his now all punch drunk was a foreshadow to what was going to happen to Lights.

Re: Lights Out Canceled :(
Just read, the producer is shopping the show around to other networks that are showing signs of interest. He mentioned Showtime.
But he also said, he doubts Showtime will invest in another networks show over their own original programming.
I hope he's wrong. It'd be stupid for Showtime time to pick the show up. It'd fit perfectly into their programming
