He is fighting tomorrow night on the Fox Sports fights, he will be before the main event.

I am real big on him and have seen many of his fights in person, hes 17-0, he is facing Eduardo Acros 16-2-1. Hopefully he continues to impress.

Saturday, January 22nd
At The Texas Station Casino, Las Vegas, NV
(FOX Sports) Robert Marroquin (17-0) vs. Eduardo Arcos (16-2-1)

Eduardo Arcos- Late replacement for slick Leon Bobo, who brings an entirely different skill set to the fight. Arcos’ record looks good but six of his wins came against boxers making their pro debuts and ten other victories were over boxers whose combined record was 14-65-2. I suppose he should get credit for stopping 13 of those foes but note that the Mexican banger has yet to win a fight outside of Mexico. Beat two men with winning records (2-1 and 3-1) and both of those were via split decision. In first fight north of the border, Arcos was stopped by underrated prospect Christopher Martin and he showed heart and durability in a kayo loss to Puerto Rican puncher Carlos Velasquez. The elongated Arcos is a high-volume puncher who likes to swarm opponents early but in the loss to Martin, resorted to rabbit punches and hard shouldering to make up for a lack of defense. Was game in that loss, forcing the ringside doctor to stop it. Tijuana-based brawler battled cuts as well, displaying a willingness to get hit to throw his own punches. On the negative side, Arcos had no head movement and looped punches (especially a pushed right hand) so Martinez’s straight jabs were allowed to dominate the action. Arcos slimmed down to 122 pounds for that fight; he usually fights at 126, so he could have been weakened by weight loss. Lacks upper body strength and does not make good use of his long arms with a range-finding or snappy jab. Arcos is a spirited competitor on offense but has enough defensive holes to make Swiss cheese envious.

Robert Marroquin- Lanky boxer-banger was an accomplished American amateur, though Marroquin never graduated to trophies on the world stage. He aims to turn that around in the pros, building on the fundamental that led to an impressive 165-20 mark in the unpaid ranks. A southpaw with great instincts (began boxing at age eight), Marroquin has a knack of extending his punches to reach the target without falling off balance. Beaten out in 2008 Olympics trials by fellow prospect Gary Russell Jr. but scored a victory over what could become his future nemesis as well. Turned pro at age 18 when Olympic hopes were dashed and is maturing well (21 now) with 17 wins in just under two years. Solid in every aspect, and reputedly has a great work ethic. Marroquin has beautiful technique and instincts, which get him out of trouble when focusing too much on offense. Like most youngsters, relies on his reflexes and is in too much of a hurry to follow up on solid preparatory work with big shots that sail over the target. That was the case against veteran trial horse Jose Bernal, who tagged Marroquin with looping shots by luring him into exchanges. However, it is that willingness to find openings for his left hook that sets Marroquin apart. Describes himself as, "Pretty much a power-puncher but I take my time. I like studying the guy at first. It’s a mix of everything. I could use speed; I could be aggressive when I need to be and I could be a counterpuncher. It all depends on the type of boxer I fight." Got a whiff of big-fight atmosphere, scoring two wins at Dallas Cowboys stadium on Manny Pacquiao undercards. Photogenic and armed with a ready smile, Marroquin is bilingual and can build on his Hispanic fan base to garner attention outside the ring as a potential crossover star. Still lives at home and attends college, comparable to former champ Juan Diaz, majoring in accounting and economics. Probably the best prospect to come out of Dallas area since Paulie Ayala.

Verdict- Marroquin is on the way up, unable to envision himself losing, while Arcos has tasted defeat every time he travels beyond the Rio Grande. It is only a matter of time before Marroquin stamps his authority on the fight, pushing Arcos to the ropes and working over the weaker man. The referee will have to be on his toes, since Arcos can absorb punches, and rescue the sagging Arcos as he wilts under a ten-punch finishing flurry in the fifth round.

He looks good in sparring. A little uncomfortable inside, but solid.

I missed the fight and have been trying to find it and the Benavidez fight on-line if anyone knows where to look.
