Then

Now

JuanMa Lopez - moved on to Showtime and taking the reins as PR's exciting star fighter

Gamboa - still a lot there but moving at a snail's pace

Robert Guerrero - similar to Gamboa, soft touches, not much development

Juan Diaz - likely done

Victor Ortiz - a hated quitter

Andre Berto - zero progress

Alfredo Angulo - migra problems, still hasnt stepped up

James Kirkland - prison, trying to start his career back up

Paul Williams - put to bed in most recent fight, the avoided label long gone, and just poorly managed fighter

Chad Dawson - a coach killer, maybe Steward can help. Has some Rocky Juarez in him

Chris Arreola - ate his way out of contention, broke both hands(?) vs Manuel Quesadilla

David Haye - aka 13/Ducker, has yet to appear on HBO

HBO realy just doesn't get it do they. They will just keep trying to artificialy create stars and keep falling flat on their faces

Yup, I love how they pumped up Haye and the only HBO appearance he's had is being in the crowd for Khan-Maidana

Victor Ortiz has not progressed either and took a step back as well. Everything here is pretty accurate.

Yeah its pretty sad that these so called "future stars" all end up being busts, well besides Dawson IMO. He did lose to Pascal, but he was coming on until that bad clash of heads that stopped the fight.

Haye was hastily added to that promo because at the time Wlad vs Haye was scheduled to be on HBO.

Maidana's definitely took away Ortiz's killer instinct, he seems more prone now to play it safe.

As much as Id like to give Lamont credit, he should of been stopped lol

Ortiz backed away like a scared puppy once Lamont started answering back

He had every advantage

If he beats Berto, gets credit for that. I like him in that fight bc of the higher weight

He's definitely more cautious, but not necessarily worse. He should've won the Peterson fight on points, and he's huge now. I hope he ends up back in the ring with Maidana because I think he decisions him easy.

great thread. I have brought up their 2009 marketing campaign a couple of times. They tried to make stars. You can't do it. Stars shine because they are stars!!!!! If it isn't a star, it doesn't shine no matter how much light you put on it!!!!!!!
