I'm pumped up for a few events, also always good to watch Bolt and Phelps.

diaz vs a ukranian
diaz up 9-6 after 2 rounds; (5-3 in round 1, 4-3 in round 2).
round 3 diaz hurt the ukranian at least 3 times.

phelps barely qualified for the 400 medley finals. that would have been crazy if he missed it. im sure that he will still medal at least when it comes to the finals though.

I know little about swimming, but the swimming analyst Rowdy gaines, seemed suprised by the times in the 100 breastroke. times were fast.

He will go down as the greatest swimmer ever and the most decorated athlete ever. Not bad.captainanddew wrote:Ali wrote:Phelps came fourth.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
from all that ive read, phelps didnt take training that seriously for this olympics. i dont blame him though. he wanted to be done after last olympics but he was probably pressured into competing in this one. he was a great swimmer but he is done at that level.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
the differences between 4th and what lochte did are an insatiable desire to be great and having pushed yourself unbelievably hard in training for years.
phelps had an insatiable desire to be great for the last olympics and he had spent 4 yrs training. he took 2 yrs off after the last olympics and while he said he was prepared for this olympics, I doubt that he put in 100% of the work that he had done for the last one. That extra 2-3% put forth in training and in desire are probably the difference.

I complete agree with Capt. but I don't have an issue with Phelps. The guy decided he wanted to be a normal person. He reset the pinnacle of his profession and he's still probably the best all around swimmer in the world. Phelps has already achieved a higher level of greatness than Lochte and possibly any swimmer we'll see in our lifetime. He's probably going for the medal record as I type this.

What a year Bradley Wiggins is having, Tour De Fance and now a gold medal in the time trial, and he's overtaken Sir Steve Redgrave with 7 medals in total at Olympic events

Most people branch out completely from the sports they usually watch but I'm still intensely interested in Federer-Murray and US basketball actually had a close call today.

I would love to see Murray beat Federer for gold.

I'm a Federer fan so I want him to complete the Golden Slam but you are not human if your heart didn't go out for Andy after Wimbledon. His post match speech was full of class and pain that can only be felt when a lifelong dream was snatched away from you.

the murray loss and speech was more than just his pain. It was a symbol of the pain that an entire generation of players have felt. Winning majors at a time when Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic play is almost impossible.
