Caballero vs. Garcia now set for September 7th on Showtime
BoxingScene.com has confirmed with promoter Sampson Lewkowicz that Celestino "Pelenchín" Caballero (36-4, 23KOs) vs. Mikey Garcia (28-0, 24KOs) will be moving to September 7 at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The fight will be televised on Showtime as part of their ShoBox series. The fight was previously scheduled for July 28th in Indio, California and Telefutura was going to televise.
Lewkowicz, who doesn't promote either boxer, secured the rights to the fight by winning the WBA's purse bid. Garcia is the mandatory challenger to Caballero's WBA featherweight title.
"The fight will be moving to September 7 at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. I felt this fight needed more exposure and we're going to have it on ShoBox, the popular series on Showtime. The venue is done. The date on Showtime is ready. I have sent new contracts to Mayweather Promotions [for Caballero] and Top Rank [for Garcia]. I hope to have both of them sign and return the contracts by early next week," Lewkowicz told BoxingScene.com.

Re: Caballero vs. Garcia now set for September 7th on Showtime
In a sudden turns of events, a planned fight between WBA featherweight champion Celestino "Pelenchín" Caballero (36-4, 23KOs) and mandatory challenger Mikey Garcia (28-0, 24KOs) is on the move once again. The fight was originally scheduled for July 28th in Indio, California and Telefutura was going to televise. A few days ago, promoter Sampson Lewkowicz confirmed his intentions to move the event to September 7 at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. And he secured the televised backing of Showtime, who planned to air the fight as part of their ShoBox series.
According to sources in the WBA, Caballero protested Lewkowicz's idea to move the fight to September. The Panamanian boxer had inactivity fears, with his last fight taking place in Japan on December 31.
Because the WBA has apparently sided with Caballero, Lewkowicz has been forced to reschedule the event to the orginal date of July 28th - but now in Panama City, which is Caballero's backyard and one of the original locations proposed to the WBA. In a brief conversation with BoxingScene.com, Lewkowicz confirmed the WBA's position.
New contracts have been issued. But unless a miracle takes place, I highly doubt Garcia will travel over to Panama to face Caballero. Lewkowicz, who doesn't promote either boxer, secured the promotional rights by winning the WBA's purse bid. If one of the boxer's drops out, Lewkowicz's winning bid of $440,000 becomes invalid.
This fight will end up falling apart

a promoter that doesn't promote either fighter. Interesting. I like that idea. He can't afford to overpay or not put asses in the seats. He doesn't want to lose money as the fighters are not long-term investments for him.
I'm sure one promoter will get his fighter to back out for some reason or another.

Isn't Sampson a manager ?
I heard Caballero was hanging around with Floyd during the time Gamboa tried to escape from Top Rank.
