Jean Pascal vs Bernard Hopkins sells like hotcakes
Future Hall of Famer and two-division world champion Bernard Hopkins will challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight belt-holder Jean Pascal on Saturday, Dec. 18, live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) in a bid to become the oldest fighter in the history of boxing to win a world title, but he’ll have to do so in front a predominantly pro-Pascal sell-out crowd at the 16,333-seat Pepsi Coliseum in Québec City, Canada.
According to Pascal’s promoter, Groupe Yvon Michel, more than 15,000 tickets were purchased within 48 hours of the on-sale date. More than 6,000 tickets were sold within the first 30 minutes. Twelve thousand tickets were obtained in the first two hours.
A superstar north of the border, Pascal (26-1, 16 KOs) is one of the most popular boxers in Canada. The Haitian-born Canadian resident has made three successful defenses in Canada since winning the WBC 175-pound crown with a unanimous decision over Adrian Diaconu on June 19, 2009 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
An emerging superstar, Pascal is coming off a career-best, upset victory over Chad Dawson, who was considered a top-5 pound-for-pound fighter and the best light heavyweight in the world.
The age-defying, 45-year-old Hopkins won the World Middleweight title on SHOWTIME in 1995 and successfully defended it 20 times, solidifying his place as one of the most prolific 160-pound world champions in history.
Hopkins created a dynasty over his incomparable 22-year career, boasting a resume with signature victories over, among many others, Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright and Kelly Pavlik.
The 28-year-old Pascal, who was just 5 years old when Hopkins turned pro in 1988, is hoping to start a dynasty of his own in front of a raucous hometown crowd.

it just gets to me Ali. So the casual fan sees that and thinks Pascal is just another one of the half dozen or so trinket holders who are kicking around at any given time. It denegrates his achievment of winning the true world championship.
but you are right, I should focus on the positive news...

It vexes me too but I see the media's ignorance so often now that I just automatically blank it out.

wait till all those fans watch BHOP make the ugliest fight imaginable. He'll instantly turn an entire country into non-boxing fans.

This is probably the only fight where I'd welcome the appointment of Marlon B Wright

+1 It'll be a great atmosphere in the building - at least until the main event starts
I was hoping to get to this but am super busy at work and likely won't be able to. Wish they'd held this in Montreal for purely selfish reasons (only an hour and a half from me).
I'd love to see Pascal take him out; but I fear Hopkins gets his way and wins a boring, ugly decision.

Yes, I would have tried to make it to this fight perhaps if it were in Montreal. But parting with money to watch Bernard Hopkins is not going to happen at this point.

scary part is I think this is a winnable fight for him even at his advanced age. Pascal fights in offensive bursts. BHOP and Nazeem will have a game plan for dealing with them. Dawson made the mistake of retreating when Pascal attacked. I think you should do the opposite, smother his ass. If he comes in and only gets 1 or 2 punches off then he is playing right into your hands because he doesn't use a consistent jab on the outside to win rounds.

I think the bold is THE issue of the fight. Can Pacaul make those bursts much more common. Does he have that in him? If he does? BHOP can't win. The guy who beat Dawson? BHOP has a shot against that guy.

If Pascal fights like he did against Dawson, he loses a boring UD to Hopkins which is sad because Hopkins never intended on fighting Dawson, but quickly makes the fight with the guy who beat him. I kinda hope that B-hop gets KO'd (which I know probably wont happen) so that he can realize that maybe it's time to call it a career rather then fighting part-time.

Pascal needs to push the pace and make Bernard work at an uncomfortable speed, if he can do that he might be able to retire the old dog.

I think Pascal takes it handily. If Taylor could out-hustle BHop a few years ago, I'm confident Pascal can now. I think he hurts him and that crowd is going to be electric. BHop is a legend in the sport and I'm sure the boxing nuts up north are going to soak it all in.

Why I don't like Showtime. Why the fuck is it being delayed on the West Coast when the fucking fight is taking place on the West Coast!!!
They always doing this shit.
HBO doesn't do that. They don't delay fights on the West Coast.
