Joke WBC won't strip Mayweather
WBC is Sticking By Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s Side, For Now
According to World Boxing Council executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman, the sanctioning body is standing behind their welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26KOs), for the moment. On Wednesday, Mayweather appeared in a Las Vegas court and was sentenced to 90 days in jail after pleading guilty to a domestic abuse charge. Mayweather, and the mother of his three children, Josie Harris, had a physical confrontation in 2010. Mayweather was ordered to surrender on January 6th to begin his term.
Per the regulations of the WBC, when a champion or a highly ranked fighter gets incarcerated for a crime, the boxer is stripped of his title or removed from the rankings. Sulaiman and the governing board of the WBC will review Mayweather's case and make a ruling in the coming weeks.
"The World Boxing Council has always been in the corner of the boxer, and the organization was created to protect the fighter. Floyd is in a voluntary defense stage, although there is no request from him or his promoter for a fight in May, so we'll discuss his legal situation," Sulaiman said. "We will try to achieve the most fair outcome for the fighter and the fans. "

can't wait for the WBC reasoning if they don't strip him in a few weeks. Not that I care about the trinkets, but the WBC is absolutely hilarious.

I can careless about the trinkets as well. Unfortunately the fighters, media, TV networks, and clueless fans do.
Bum Jr is constantly referred to as a "champion" because of his gift wrapped WBC trinket

Flod will be upgraded to WBC Jail Champion, and if he ever goes up to the big house, he'll get the Prison belt with the silver Jail belt.

Sulaiman on Mayweather: Beating a Lady, Not a Major Sin
World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman believes that the WBC should not strip Floyd Mayweather Jr. of his welterweight title because of his being sentenced to 90 days in prison.
Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard that while the “WBC officially has not decided anything yet” - he also noted that “beating a lady is highly critical, [but] it is not a major sin or crime.”
The WBC president feels that “we should join the service to society ruling [by the court] with visits to hospitals of children with cancer.”
Sulaiman said he believes the WBC “should not touch his (Mayweather’s) career or his title because we want him to fight (Manny) Pacquiao which is the fight that the world wants and perhaps the last boxing match of both.”

The Fat One is correct. Not only is Joke Sillyman's comments sickening, the fool is going against his own bullshit rules.
A boxer will not be rated if any of the following occurs:
∗ Convicted and incarcerated.

Martinez and Bradley didn't get incarcerated for beating a woman, yet WBC stripped them.

I agree with most of what I've read here. That said, boxing is in a chaotic state of anarchy. The rules are, "There ain't no rules." It will be this way until we have a serious governing body. End of story.

Sulaiman Clarifies Remarks on Mayweather, Hitting a Lady
By WBC President Dr. José Sulaimán:
“I would like to clarify my feelings about some recent comments of mine, and apologize for not finding the right words in English - there are many times when I cannot find the right words to express what I really mean. The comments attributed to me are a complete misrepresentation of my true feelings.
“I am a devoted husband and father of two daughters, and have three wonderful granddaughters, as well. The Virgin of Guadalupe is my superior saint. I am the person that developed female boxing, and I am the person in the WBC that has always been concerned with the protection of women in the ring. I have always been a strong supporter of women’s rights and the protection of women in society. Those are the facts – everybody knows me.
“In my comments, I just meant to say that I have always been in the corner of all the boxers of the world. They are my greatest heroes and, good or bad, I will always be in their corner.
“I know Floyd Mayweather personally, and I know that he’s a good person. I know that he accepted a plea deal for a serious offense, and I did not intend to make light of that. The judge sentenced him to 90 days, which I think is fair. But I know that Floyd is a good human being with a good heart, and I am confident that he will redeem himself with his actions in the future.
“I just wanted Floyd to know that the WBC will always stay strongly in his corner.”

Because there is no guarantee that Floyd pays it.dbudge wrote:why would they when they're gna get 7 figures from his next fight???
Didn't Floyd refuse to pay any sanctioning fees in the Mosley fight? I thought Mosley had the WBA belt and Floyd refused to pay the fees.
After paying lawyers, accountants, IRS (as he seems to forget to pay each year), etc..... ,and getting out of jail with no money having come in for a bit, will Floyd really want to give anyone a dime?

i see what you're saying captain, but floyd has always held wbc belts http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=mayweather+wbc+belts&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&qscrl=1&nord=1&rlz=1T4DSGQ_en___GB461&biw=1249&bih=586&tbm=isch&tbnid=YguZ_O2kpOaztM:&imgrefurl=http://underdogboxing.wordpress.com/2010/04/21/mayweather-mosley-now-a-non-title-match/&docid=39S9X-akK2CuTM&imgurl=http://underdogboxing.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/mayweather_wbc.jpg&w=468&h=335&ei=2dv7TtPGCcTL8QPq7ey-AQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=90&vpy=146&dur=999&hovh=190&hovw=265&tx=143&ty=115&sig=102369296440123728710&page=1&tbnh=127&tbnw=169&start=0&ndsp=21&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0

I know he has always loved the WBC. His brother, Roger Mayweather, won belts from IBO, WBA, and WBC if my memory isn't going and he had the most defenses of the WBC belt. But when Floyd gets out of the pokey (after IRS time) and doesn't get a Pac fight and gets paid alot less than such a fight, he very well may say fuck it. I would if I were him.
You may be right, but I just don't think anything is a given with Floyd anymore. He is bigger than any belt.

Martinez to denounce Sulaiman's domestic violence comments
RingTV.com has learned that RING middleweight champion Sergio Martinez will hold a press conference in his native Argentina on Thursday, where he is expected to publicly denounce comments attributed to WBC president Jose Sulaiman that Martinez believes are insensitive to women in general, and particularly to those who have experienced domestic violence.
Ranked No. 3 by THE RING, pound-for-pound, Martinez (48-2-2, 27 knockouts) is also expected to express his disappointment in what he feels is the organization's failure to follow through with last week's mandate that WBC beltholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1, 31 KOs) face Martinez in his next bout.
Sergio Maravilla Martinez is his own man. He makes his own decisions and he's very, very upset. But whatever he will say tomorrow, or whatever he tweets today, it's because of his own decisions, and he will follow up with his destiny," said Martinez's advisor Sampson Lewkowicz.
"But he will march on this destiny. He will not allow anyone to dictate his destiny, and in this case, that's the WBC. I believe that the networks and the sanctioning bodies never have had a real human being like Sergio Martinez. They don't understand him. I don't believe that tomorrow, he will be a happy camper."
As a supporter of battered women's issues, Martinez often visits women’s shelters and domestic violence centers, meeting and supporting the victims there.
According to Lewkowicz, Martinez is "very disappointment" in the words attributed to Sulaiman

Good for Martinez, but he's still a chump for his stupid loyalty to the WBC.
