BOXING SHOOTS ITSELF IN THE FOOT AGAIN
ppvs ok folks fans shell out money to see a fight on tv.1.the hopkins disaster and a commision needs 2 months to make a descion which is apparent to everyone2.floyd-ortiz and the incompetent cortez.3.manny pac wins.look thousands of casula fans and the general public who are not boxing fans saw in there eyes a injustice.4.the margo fight with less then 3 weeks to go is moving out of ny city.fuck the fans who bought tickets hell thell get a refund.fuck sticking them with a hotel bill that may have a penalty for cancelling.dont substitute another fighter to keep it there.
margo MAY BE denied a liscence dispite top eye doctors saying he can perform.5.arum thumbs his nose at all fans and says floyds not in the picture.6.talks of a floyd-morales fight which everyone views as a joke..7.of course the commisions the several divisions the 1107 boxing champs of today..
boxing weekly keeps shoting itself not in one foot but in both feet.
folks if boxing ever makes it back to cbs or tbs etc etc do not think for one second this will save a unsaveable sport.unless all this nonsence stops NOW the tv exposure will just show more folks how low how bad how rediculous this sport has gotten to be.how unworthy it is since its not capable of governing itself.
just as you think things cannot get worse it does.this is not negative its reality.can you blame the public or casual fans for saying fuck boxings its a joke.a shell of its former self..hell they will say ill watch texas hold em first.fighters that dont fight.fighters that doint challedge them selves.courtroom drama.no set rules.no set governing body..no nothing except thumbing there nose at fans.
yeah boxiung will succeed in bringing in tons of new fans.ill dream another dream.something that resembles semi-reality.

Damn Dmar that a hell of a rant
Hard to argue with much of that though. It's getting more and more challenging to defend boxing to all my UFC-fan friends (there are more and more of THEM all the time). They look at the last three or four "big" fights and see one joke after the next. It's getting so you have to be a die-hard fan to even follow the sport anyway, as it gets pushed further and further into Bizzaro-land.
The great hope for the past few years has been Pac v. Floyd - with a lot of people saying that "mega-fight" could rejuvinate interest and bring back the casual sports fan. Now with both guys having questionable fights last time out and Arum's claim that the fight isn't even in the picture, a mega-fight seems 1) less likely, and 2) less marketable even if it does happen.
Not a lot of bright spots in the game right now.

This isn't just a boxing problem you know. MMA has to go through the same incompetant State Athletic Commissions as boxing. New York won't even sanction MMA. How fucking stupid is that.
It's these commissions that assign these idiot refs and idiot judges. What's worse is promoters are the ones responsible for paying for the officials. So no shit there is a conflict of interest going on.
There's bad refing and bad decisions in MMA as well.

The athletic comm. are a joke in every state. Nevada, Texas, NY and NJ all bend to the promoters will since they need the $$$. I'm still amazed CA didn't re-instate Margo after Wraps-gate. And some of the redneck states in the southeast/midwest are even worse, the SC comm. let a 6'9 155 pound MMAer not only fight, but fight pro less than a month after he had been KTFO in an amateur fight. Huge shock he died.

Re: BOXING SHOOTS ITSELF IN THE FOOT AGAIN
Boxings biggest problem, and the reason it is losing fans and has become a footnote sport instead of the countries premier sport, is a lack of control. FIGHTERS decide who they fight and when or even IF. In every other sport, Floyd Mayweather would have HAD to face Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams, Manny Pac, etc. Roy Jones would have HAD to face Darius Michalzewski, Michael Nunn, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Frankie Liles etc. etc. Instead, they didnt and fans lost interest in them.
Like I said this is the BIGGEST problem, not the ONLY problem. PPV, no free TV, etc. also hurt the sport.

You can't compare combat sports with other sports. In tennis it's no big deal if the Williams sisters square off on the court. But it's not the same as expecting say the Klitschko brothers to get in the ring and beat the shit out of each other.
You can't make someone fight someone they don't want to. Why fighter's got no problem ditching their belts over taking a manditory they don't want to take.
The issue is the market and screwed up economics of boxing right now allows fighters to take easier routes. If say fighter's like Bradley weren't getting over-paid there's little doubt he'd been more willing to fight Khan. Instead he get's paid million to fight Casamayor.

Re: BOXING SHOOTS ITSELF IN THE FOOT AGAIN
some good points here by grant and lawyer.no you cannot force someone to fight someone and yes the crazy economics of the sport has hurt it a lot.bradley is a perfect example.several factors come into play that have destroyed boxing to the point its far from mainstream.this should of never happened or could of been avoided to the point damage could of been greatly reduced.
5 or so commisions 17 divisions phoney weight in times and as many as 5 champs in one division by one commision has delt boxing a severe blow and this crap evolved over time.this nonsence is the number 1 culprit..the mentality of todays fighters has evolved also due to this as well as economics and other reasons like promoters dictating to fighters who they fight as well as long term contracts that in itself gives a schudle of 2 fights a year..add that to the fact that some tv outlets litterly oiverpay a fighter 5 to 10 times there actual worth on what they can draw..
look at the mentality of a robinson and a marciano for example.both loved money.if robby were around today and they said look its pac at 20 million theres floyd at 25 million a a berto at 15 million a ortiz at 15 million a marquez at 17 million a martinez at 20 million robinson would of said make ALL thoses fights two months apart.theres no doubt in my mind that what would happen.it was in his mentality dna.
today marciano would be fighting at light heavy with todays weigh inns.rocky there bute at 15 million fonch at 15 hopkins at 10 dawson at 10 cloud at 15 etc etc theres no doubt that thoses fighters would have all they can do to prevent rocky from killing them.forget about them wining the fight please.
how many courtroom battles have we sceen todays fighters involved in..some have more of that then real fights.
one champ per division maybe 11 divisions instead of 17 that forces fighters to earn a real title shot instead of positioning themselves for a phoney belt which comes to about 15 per division in reality..guys like a gil turner tiger jones a kid gavilin a fullmer a robinson a ez charles etc e4tc hell almost every top to second tier fighter fought the best out there because of one champ per division or because it was in there dna.
with the tax structure of today which is extremly low by standards in relationship of before yes guys would say bring it on and that means not just twice a year.
todays boxing problems are very very deep and theres several at the helm of destruction.gone are the days a harry markson a norm rothchild a sam silverman can pick up the phone and call a gaviln a robinson a gil turner a tony demarco a emile griffith and say i got a fight for you..its now a arum a golden boy etc that say i control your destiny not you or your management..its a monopoly that destroys competion and of course the 5 commisions love it cause they bring in huge monies by creating new belts for a heafty fee...a fighter tosses a belt so what because he knows very shortly he will fight for another phoney belt..there a dime a dozen...sanity has gone out the window..the lack of it is another factor is it not...
the problems are deep and several in numbers and it evolved over time anjd us fans allowed this to happen to a certain degree.
