Angulo-Kirkland almost a done deal for Nov 5 Empty Angulo-Kirkland almost a done deal for Nov 5

Post  GrantZilla Thu Sep 22, 2011 3:25 am

An HBO televised junior middleweight clash of hard-hitting fighters Alfredo Angulo and southpaw James Kirkland is is likely for Nov. 5 in Cancun, Mex., Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told RingTV.com.

The 29-year-old Angulo (20-1, 17 KOs) and the 27-year-old Kirkland (29-1, 26 KOs) are each handled by Golden Boy Promotions.

"Kirkland-Angulo, it looks good. We have made our offers to the fight camps and we're waiting to hear back, but based on the conversations, it looks like the fight is done," said Schaefer.

"That would be on Nov. 5 in Cancun on HBO. We are currently working on the opening bout. It would be a double-header, and we're working on two or three different scenarios."

I had Angulos fight a draw against Cintron, but Cintron gets decisions his way out in Florida (check out his fight with Martinez)

What I think. Props to Kirkland's camp for taking the fight. But shit, kind of a dumb move considering.

Anne Wolfe

"Eventually, he's going to have to fight somebody who's in the top five," Wolfe said. "We're ready now. Show be tell. He's going to be bigger than what he was before he lost. It's truly like, 'We want to kill something,' and they want to give us meat that's already dead. A real predator don't want no cooked meat. You keep feeding a damn lion meat out of the refrigerator, it's gonna lose its predatory instincts. We want something raw, with its eyeballs looking at us, so we can kill it and eat it."

Well its time to step up already. Say the Ishida fight was just a "fluke", now he almost has to face a real challenege for the first time in his career and its about fucking time. Make or break for both guys.

I had Cintron winning the Angulo fight (I had it 7-5 instead of the 3 judges that had Cintron winning 8 rounds). As for Cintron vs Martinez, that fight was a travesty. Martinez KOs him with a punch, Cintron convinces the ref it was a headbutt. Then Martinez continues to win comfortably (he should have won 8-4 at worst) and gets a draw. I'll never understand what the refs and judges were watching that night.

I had that fight 10-2 for Martinez. Also should of won by DQ as Cintrons team ran into the ring illegally.

I'm not going to rule out the Kirkland upset. I'm sure Wolfe and his embarrassing loss will have him scared into the best condition of his life. More importantly, we have no idea what Angulo's been up to.

i agree, if richard guitirrez and had angulo moonwalking then kirkland can do it as well. i think this is a dumb move by goldenboy matching them up now. they should have them step up but not against each other.

They've fought enough bums. They're not getting any younger. HBO isn't going to pay for them to fight bums anymore. So get an HBO payday and the winner can hype up to fight Canelo or Cotto.

I like the fight. Angulo gets to show what type of shape he's in. Kirkland gets to show if he's legit. Either way it should be an action fight that ends in a KO and sets up some bigger fights down the road for the winner.

It will be a fun fight to watch, but Ann Wolfe has a better chance to beat Angulo than Kirkland.

According to a source involved, Alfredo Angulo-James Kirkland is "basically done" for Nov. 5 in Cancun on HBO.
