James DeGale vs. Piotr Wilczewski set for Oct 15th

Super middleweight prospect James DeGale aims to get his career back on track when he faces Poland’s Piotr Wilczewski for the European title on Oct. 15 at the Liverpool Echo Arena in England.

DeGale’s first fight since losing his British belt and unbeaten record to bitter rival George Groves in May will be on the undercard of Welshman Nathan Cleverly's WBO light heavyweight title defense against Tony Bellew.

Wilczewski, 33 this week, is likely to provide DeGale with a decent test. He has lost only once in 30 outings and is ranked No. 2 by the WBO.

Promoter Frank Warren describes the bout as “must win” for DeGale, 25, as he attempts to prove his contentious defeat to Groves, on a majority decision, was no more than a blip.

“The Groves fight is totally out of my system, and I’m totally focused on becoming European champion,” said the 2008 Olympic gold medallist from west London. "It’s against a guy who will come to fight. He’s tough but technically good as well. This will be by far the toughest fight of my career.”
