Golden Boy Promotions continues its wretched, wretched ways on Telefutura. Last week Omar Figueroa and Arturo Quintero fought to an entertaining draw, true. But surely it was a surprise to all involved, since Quintero had not been in the ring in well over four years. Over four years! The week before, Jose M. Cotto got to blast out a late substitute, Chris Henry, in a fight that might wind up on the Human Rights Watch website. (God forbid a promoter would have the brains to give an undercard slot to a potential substitute to avoid bouts that are as competitive as a stoning staged by the Taliban.) Henry, now 24-20, suffered the 12th knockout loss of his career.
Ironically, Henry is actually no worse than many of the stumblebums GBP selects as fodder for its low-level shows. Recent examples of snuff programming include Pablo Sarmiento–out of the ring for six years but main event stuff for Golden Boy–and woebegotten Mauricio Pastrana, both drawn and quartered within a round by their respective executioners.
This atrocious level of matchmaking contradicts the regular GBP line of boasting. Whenever Richard Schaefer, for example, brags abut delivering sponsors, he inevitably fails to mention that the sponsors underwrite his cards in lieu of significant licensing fees from Fox Sports and Telefutura. Fright Night Club and So-Low Boxeo are basically infomercials, since the fee from the networks is negligible. If GBP is so successful luring sponsors, wheeling and dealing, and opening up corporate checkbooks, then how come none of this translates into better fights? Fright Night Club has been “renewed” for another season, which means sadists around the world can celebrate.
I've really tuned out on most of these shows, it is it that bad
I'll watch the rare times they have an interesting fight on

It can get pretty bad because the top guys don't fight real competition. It's a series of showcase fights. Occasionally they'll get a good main event or prospects fight, but those aren't consistent. It's like FNF with lower production values, lower weight classes, and in Spanish.
My favorite fights are when the main events end early and they have to show the undercard fights which can be wars between more limited fighters.

to be fair telefutura and telemundo fights are more about showcasing a prospect or a certain fighter. i honestly never tuned in to telemundo to watch a good fight i tune in to watch a prospect beat the shit out of some bum lol with that said the quintero-figueroa fight was indeed good but oscars really high on figueroa and he didn't come through.

Yeah, I got no problem with shows like this just show casing young talent. You need a farm system like that.
That's why get pissed when HBO does that. HBO should not be about building up a fighter or showcasing a fighter. They are the Big Leagues, and should just be putting on the best fights possible.

There's a difference in showcasing a fighter and pretty much guaranteeing a win which is what most of GBP cards on these shows are
The one time I tuned in was to see Mercito Gesta because he was matched tough (at least going into the fight), the rest of the stuff is so predictable its not really worth tuning into

True.
But only reason why Solo Boxeo even back is because GB got all these sponsors in bed with them. So what you going to do, you know

At least display some type of competition on there, nobody going to tune into BS fights

I agree. But every promoter does this, and it's crap
Arum is the worse. He nearly ruined FNF with his out-out deal with them, he total ruined boxing on Versus.

This year Ive been impressed and entertained so far with his Top Rank Live shows on Fox Sports
Even this Saturday have a nice little main event going
Fox Sports Net, Fox Sports Espanol, TV Azteca (Mexico), 10:00 p.m. Eastern, Raul Martinez vs. Rodrigo Guerrero, Matt Korobov vs. Derrick Findley. Martinez has rattled off three decent wins since getting thrashed by Nonito Donaire. Guerrero showed a ton of heart, but was way out of his depth against Vic Darchinyan, but otherwise owns good wins over Luis Maldonado, Topo Rosas and Federico Catubay. This one's an IBF title eliminator. On the undercard, Korobov tries to get his groove back against a guy both Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell made short work of. Former amateur world champ Korobov has looked lethargic and unimpressive his last several fights, but he claims that was due to a medical condition that has now cleared up.
