According to promoter Lou DiBella, the venue for the Sept. 3 IBF welterweight title fight between incumbent champ Jan Zaveck and his client, Andre Berto, has been finalized to take place at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss.
“You’re the first one to be hearing this,” DiBella said. “Andre’s returning to the same place where he fought [Luis] Collazo [in 2009].”
Berto (27-1, 21 KOs) is coming off a Fight of the Year candidate in April where he lost his WBC welterweight belt to Victor Ortiz via unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Zaveck (31-1, 18 KOs), a German-based Slovenian, will be making the fourth defense of a title he took from Isaac Hlatshwayo in December 2009.
“This is another type of defining fight for Andre,” DiBella added. “How does he bounce back from disappointment? How does he bounce back from losing his belt? He’s got to watch Victor Ortiz fight Floyd Mayweather in a big money fight from Biloxi, Mississippi, knowing it could have been him, had he been himself that night.”
My take: Berto can't get anyone to come watch him fight. When he fought at home in Florida he didn't have a big crowd (if I recall correctly it was less than 1000). His promoter never made a strong effort to help his fighter build a homebase. And now, instead of trying to actually promote his ass off he is taking the fee the casino is paying. There won't be many people who show up, Berto will still be overpaid greatly, and afterwards Berto and his team will argue he should get mega money in a big fight. Such ridiculousness.

Re: Zaveck vs Berto site update
To clarify, 937 tickets were bought for Berto-Quintana.
Dibella is a shitty promoter. Never once did he try to build a fanbase for Berto. Looking at Boxrec, Berto has never fought in the same venue in back to back fights and has only fought in the same state once back to back (Urango, Quintana).

I know. I looked at his boxrec before the Ortiz fight and saw the same damn thing. Dibella is horrible.

If Lou was smart he'd try and get this on the Martinez vs Barker undercard.
