Zaveck wants Berto next
Dejan Zavec (Jan Zaveck) revealed potential opponents for the match that will happen during the summer and will most probably take place in USA. Andre Berto, Randall Bailey and Miguel Cotto are among favourites.
“If I could choose, I would pick up Berto. Wishes to fight for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) title are coming from his team also, after he lost the World Champion in WBC,” said Dejan Zavec (31 win, 18 KO, 1 lost), the IBF World Champion, about potential opponents at his press conference yesterday.
Zavec – widely known as Jan Zaveck - expects to fight before the end of the summer and gives 90% possibility that the fight will happen in USA. However, the final decision about who Mr. Simpatikus will fight against will be made at the end of May at the IBF Congress.
Andre Berto (27 wins, 21 KO, 1 lost), the eminent boxer in the welterweight category, looks to be the most possible opponent, what has also been spoken a lot about in foreign media and Twitter. Berto is ranked 4th on the BoxRec ratings, just a place higher from Zavec. His physical training for the match will once more be under his fitness coach Tommy Jagarinec supervision, as technical and tactical training with coach Dirk Dzemski will take place in Magdeburg (Germany).”

Good fight. Makes sense. Berto is young, he should be fine physically after the Ortiz fight. He can beat Zaveck if he mentally is past it.

I'm risk adverse in general. When a guy loses and it is a KO I like guys to take some time off, then get a tuneup and then get going.
This is different. He was in a very tough fight. But he is young and physically strong. Unless his team thinks the Ortiz fight will have taken alot out of him, I'd be willing to put him back out there with Zaveck.
But they know him better than I do.
Even if they believe in him physically, what is his mental state going to be?
Is Andre Berto the type of guy who will take that loss, and say I did some strategic things wrong, Ortiz had a great night, and I just need to move on and get my ass in gear again.
Or is Andre Berto the type of guy who will be much less confident after his first loss. If the latter is the case then his team would be smart to get him a tuneup before putting him in with Zaveck.

KTFO Hlatswayo to win the title, and defeated Jackiewicz in a rematch (lost a homer decision in the first fight). Other than that, not much else of note on his resume.

Promoter Lou DiBella is working on a deal that would see mandatory welterweight title challenger Randall Bailey (41-7, 36 KOs) step aside and allow former titlist Andre Berto to challenge titleholder Jan Zaveck (31-1, 18 KOs) of Slovenia in the early fall. (DiBella promotes Bailey and Berto.) Selling Zaveck-Bailey to an American network is difficult, meaning Bailey likely would have to go to Zaveck's native Slovenia for a small purse to get his shot. But Bailey can step aside, take an interim bout and then get a more lucrative shot at the winner of the proposed Zaveck-Berto fight, which would take place in the U.S. and raise Zaveck's profile. Berto (27-1, 21 KOs) lost his version of the 147-pound title via decision to Victor Ortiz last month in a candidate for fight of the year.
