This is a great article. The author takes all the high rated HBO fights from 2009 to present, and compares key catigores for each one.

Best vs Best, Action fight potential, Ethnic/regional angle, Attendance, Promoter, and WildCard(Example: was there say a replay of a major PPV fight that was shown before the fight)

The most common things in all the high ratings were pretty no-brainers

Best vs Best: showed up in 18 of the fights
Action Fight Potential: Showed up in 9 of the fights
Ethnic/regional angle: Showed up 11 times
Attendance: Came up 9 times
