What you expect now that Showtime is run by Golden Boy's lawyer? We all know Ken Hershman was the mastermind behind Showtime surpassing HBO as far as quality. Now Showtime going to shit. It's GB and Al Hayman controlled, just like HBO once was.

That's such a conflict of interest. It's a shame.

Yeah, I don't get Showtime's decision at all. Maybe you're right about Showtime wanting to get out of the boxing business. I think it's more like they want live programming but they don't care enough anymore to get involved with promoters. So they're just going to let one promoter handle it all. I dunno.

Sort of like Main Events and NBC Sports.

main events and nbc is an exclusive output deal. At least it is on the up and up.

Showtime isn't supposed to be. And Showtime's budget, while not nearly as much as hbo, dwarfs NBC's boxing budget.

If NBC puts on some bad shows, they likely didn't spend too much, and they aren't depriving the fans of major fights. When Showtime puts on shitty cards with Sith Lord Haymon guys instead of fighters we want to see, then we are really getting screwed. Showtime and HBO are supposed to give us the fights we want to see.

amazing.if im reading this correct is showtime having doubts about cloud-pasqual fighting at a sold out enthusiactic crowd .a fight that the result could be is who strikes first strikes last..this fight needs no undercard to sell tickets nor to excite fans.its a natural.

Pascal vs Cloud - Page 2 Empty Showtime reject Adonis Stevenson vs. The Road Warrior

Post  Guest Tue May 01, 2012 10:38 am

Dan Rafael
RT @Kshelton3: @danrafaelespn Showtime is not ok with Adonis vs Road Warrior yet they can put Morel in a main event or Russell vs TBD?

I don't really have an issue with this, Glen was a warrior and classy guy but he's had his time IMO.

El barraco makes no sense here. Morel actually gave a good effort against mares and russell is one of the top prospects in the sport. plus jhnson has been dominated in his last couple of fights.

But i believe it was boxingscene that put out a report saying that adonis could be facing that huge south african kid from last weeks shobox, oosthuizen. that would be a good fight and i would rather watch that than adonis vs johson.

I guess it's likely to be postponed because Pascal injurred his hand

I blame it on several factors. First off, inactivity allows boxers to get out of shape in between fights. Second, they probably have improper technique in training as well. Third is similar to the point you made. Fighters pull out of fights much more quickly today because a loss significantly hurts their public image. They can just pull out and then fight 2 months later and make the same amount of money and preserve theoretical future earnings.

That's basically it. In the past when fighters fought often and losses didn't mean as much as they do now, fighters were more willing to fight even with an injurry. No athlete is 100% healthy. Especially a fighter going through grueling training camps.
