He did good! Well, sort of. I think.

Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz is working diligently to prepare for an upcoming boxing match against former Super Middleweight Champion Jeff Lacy, who agreed to welcome Diaz to the "sweet science" later this year.

To help get his hands up to snuff, the wily Stockton slugger is mixing it up with current WBA Super Middleweight Champion and Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward, who shares his experience of working with Diaz in a recent conversation with ESPN.com.

"Nick has good hands, some of the best hands in MMA. But professional boxing is totally different. Totally different. I can’t really talk about [how he did]. That’s something fighter’s don’t reveal out of respect for each other. It was good work though. He’s a southpaw and he just keeps on coming. It’s definitely good work."

Sounds like Nick's a good workout. But is he a good boxer?

Diaz, who recently scored an improbable come-from-behind victory via first round technical knockout over British striker Paul "Semtex" Daley back on April 9, has been vocal about finding new challenges outside the Strikeforce promotion.

The Stockton, Calif., native is riding a 10-fight win streak and has finished all but one of his opponents in dominating fashion. Coach Cesar Gracie even told HDNet that Diaz has a "re-worked" contract that allows him to dabble in the sport of boxing, where you don't have to worry about takedowns or lay 'n pray.

If Diaz gets crushed in the "sweet science," expect a hasty return to the cage. But will he be stuck in San Jose until the Showtime contract expires? Or can Zuffa finagle a UFC return? And who would Diaz fight if it could?

who really gives a fuck what Nick Diaz is doing??? Jeff Lacy is as washed up as washed up can be. the fight is a joke. Lacy's career was over when the Welsh Whiteboy pulled his pants down and raped him. he has done nothing since that fight and that was in 2004/5 (around about then). Lacy will get knocked out and it will only give MMA gayboys a bigger fan for their flames of obsession towards downgrading anything boxing related in an attempt to make their chosen sport seem better than what it is. so Diaz beats Lacy??? then what, is that gonna put him in line for a title shot???? by beating the most shot fighter in the World????

Lacy got his ass kicked by a journeyman boxer in his last fight. He lost by a wide margin while fighting in front of his home crowd, and with the judges likely giving him the benefit of the doubt in any close round. Yet, he still lost wide!!! When you lose to a guy who has a record like 21-19-6 (or something like that), then it is over, over, over.

You guys are exactly right. Why are the only boxers considered for these type of MMA crossover matches fighters who need to be brought back from the dead? Nothing against Diaz or Lacy. Lacy isn't so bad for a pro debut, is it? And Lacy has a right to earn a living. but I don't like these kind of deals turning into false fodder for people to take shots at boxing.

Diaz is making his debut. Lacy should still destroy him. Who should Diaz fight for his pro debut then?

ok let Diaz have a boxing career, more power to him. just don't expect me to get to excited about pointless match-ups. the guy is obviously trying to use his MMA star as a ticket to a World title shot in Boxing. but Lacy lost in his last fight to a guy with a record that guys making their debuts should be facing. that's no good for a former World title holder, Lacy as a fighter has been destroyed and is now just hanging on to what might have been and never quite was. at the end of the day Diaz is a trained prizefighter, boxer or not, he is an athlete in his prime. Lacy is not, Lacy's name is just being used as a marketing tool for Diaz. if Diaz really wants to have a professional boxing career and he succeeds then good luck to him, but in reality this is a completely pointless excercise whether he wins or loses

I just don't like how Lacy is being talked about as if he's still relivant and more than what he is. He was never a Champion. He was a trinket holder that got beat by The Champ Calzaghe.

He's totaly shot. And he's slurring his words.

Because none of the top guys are interested in fighting them.

If Diaz is serious about Boxing then this is the way to go. Who is going to debut against a top fighter?

Lacy lost his last fight to Dhafir Smith. 23-19-7.

The fight was in Lacy's backyard.

whatever crowd was there was on his side.

Judges likely gave him benefit of doubt in close rounds.

Scores were 118-110, 117-111, and 116-112. Yup, 10 rounds to 2, 9 rounds to 3, and 8 rounds to 4, at home, probably getting benefit of doubt in close rounds against a journeyman. He's shot as hell.

Im pretty sure he didnt do good. Ward didnt want to talk about it, so its saying something. Ive seen Diaz box before (of Youtube), hes a slugger. Im sure Ward had no problems handling him. Diaz can possibly beat shot Lacy though, because hes not very good. Diaz vs Lacy is just worthless, I have have no interest in it. Diaz should stick to MMA and Lacy should enjoy all that money he made from boxing retired and happy.
