Your Top 10 Boxing Heavyweights Ever at their peaks?
What are your top 10 Heavyweights ever based on them at their peak and not for their whole career based on a who beats who scenario? Also please post the year. For instance you can have 5. Mike Tyson- 1987.

Maybe, maybe not, but in a prime vs prime match-up the ROCK beats MORE fighters on the list than Lewis does, so he ranks above him.

Re: Your Top 10 Boxing Heavyweights Ever at their peaks?
Tough, tough question.
On certain nights, some guys looked unbeatable. It would take a guy looking at every fight a guy has ever had and picking the best night against anothers "best night". Tough to do. It would take me months to answer with any real confidence, but here is a top of the head answer for some guys.
Joe Louis
Muhammed Ali
Evander Holyfield
Larry Holmes
George Foreman
Those guys above seem like LOCKS on their "best nights"
Guys I am shaky on because they had glaring weaknesses even on their BEST nights, that another great on HIS best night would take advantage of are
Lennox Lewis (that chin will ALWAYS keep him off the very top of my lists)
Mike Tyson (he was always gonna be vulnerable to a certain style of fighter)

Suspect chin? Lewis suffered 2 KO's. McCall caught him good and so did Rahman.

The level of the competiton doing the knocking down and the timing matters. Lewis was KTFO by journeymen in his ABSOLUTE prime and peak years. Big difference. If Ali gois down for a 10 count vs Richard Dunn and Jurgin Blinn it does not take him out of the great heavyweights conversation, but it DOES knock him out of the GOAT talk doesnt it?
If Foreman is out cold on one shot from Whitehurst, you think he still makes the top 5? top 8? What if Buster Mathis one-punched Frazier? Where does he go. Holyfield gets clocked by Adilson Rodriguez and Seamus McDonaugh you think he still makes the top ten?
Holyfield getting dropped by Toney is understandable given Holfields age, but if it happens to a prime Holyfiled?! Had Lewis gone down at the tail end of his career, I would not be so harsh. But again, he was KTFO by two journey men in his absolute PRIME and PEAK.

Re: Your Top 10 Boxing Heavyweights Ever at their peaks?
freak please know what your talking about..marciano knocked down several times you said..realy it was twice.once by walcott where hes feet were squared off and once by moore with a rare balance problem which i disgussed both with marble at one time..dempsey was koed once where you said he wasnt and ali was stoped which is a tko.tunney was down only once marciano only twice the rest have been down more..yes lewis had a suspect chin which was koed by 2 mediocre fighters.
vitali hasnt been knocked down yet but he was staggered several times by lewis and once by byrd and the quality of fighters he fought never tested him and most were not world class punchers.
i think theres a huge tendency to overate george foreman..sloppy fighter in his hay day poor balance and a technition like joe louis would ko him every time.sorry ..if an old past his peak LH greg peralta could punch he would of taken george out of there maybe twice.

I didn't say Dempsey wasn't ko'd. Marciano was down as many times as Lewis. Lewis against Rahman was over weight and he didn't train. That was a bigger factor than his chin. Truth is I used those stats from someone from another board and I didn't bother checking if they were right or wrong which was my mistake.

Re: Your Top 10 Boxing Heavyweights Ever at their peaks?
Freak, maybe you're right in deciding that the physical advantages Lewis has over "The Rock" may be too much for him to overcome. That said, Marciano did things I never saw another fighter do. Example. Rocky got his nose broken 17 times yet retired undefeated. Most fighters quit with a broken nose. He pulled out a 13 KO over a capable Jersey Joe Walcott late in the fight. No luck involved. He knocked out Ezzard Charles in the 9th round while fighting with a nose that was split in two.freakzilla wrote:You honestly think Marciano beats Lewis?
The greatest figthers in any division will be able to accomplish feats that nobody else believes they could. 10 years after their miracle performance, everyone claims they knew it was coming. LOL

Marciano is a great no doubt but I don't think he could've beat these fighters in their prime-

Re: Your Top 10 Boxing Heavyweights Ever at their peaks?
...lets look at things in a proper perspective..louis has gone on record several times saying both in trhere prime rocky would of won.thats from a very proud and honest guy..ali has said the same thing several times..today rocky would be fighting at 175 the most or maybe even 168 due to weight in times and expertise dehydration.look at donaire 118 for the fight the day before 134 fight night.a bantam huh..ali had problems with guys that were agressive and fought short.henry cooper at 185 anyone.that should of been a ko..a one armed hitable no defense joe frazier..evangalista..who lol..after the fight i talkerd with a few fighters that thought ali lost..norton who shuffled in a crotch.foreman was a 4 and a half round fighter.look at the second frazier fight where joe at least a half dozen times ducked under slopy georges roundhouse punches puting geprge in a vulnerable possition but didnt punch back to make him pay.rocky would of..yep these superman giants.a crafy fighter who could punch and feight these guys out of there joc kstrap then ko them is walcott.on his on days not off days id give joe a better then 50-50 chance of doing that to these big hittable targets.glass jaw lewis ill give one fighter who would beat him 3 out of 3 times.harry wills..greatness comes in many levels.louis rocky tunney ali were at the highest level.lewis and george at the lowest.so todaY AT 175or 168 there is no one in history that would beat the rock.period..there were several that could clean the clock of lewis and sloppy george.walcott and harry will;s are just two that stood a great chance in doing that.ive said my piece.i can go on and on about these big targets guys think are giant superman.freakzilla wrote:Marciano is a great no doubt but I don't think he could've beat these fighters in their prime-

The big Difference between Lewis and the other guysup there that got knocked down is THEY got up. Lewis stayed down and took a nice little nap.
