Berto - Ortiz
This is the most important fight this weekend IMO. Berto, who I still like more than most, could luck into a Pac fight. He needs to beat a quitter who no longer wants to make 140 and needs JMM to sign with GBP. Both appear likely to me. If they happen, who else is even a remote possibility for Pac?
Ortiz was crowded out at 140 but could be a big money fight for Mayweather with a win.
The truth is WW is wide open and this fight is pretty close. Who do you expect to win and what are the repercussions of the win?

Berto is a fast, powerful, pressure fighter. Ortiz is a fast, powerful fighter that can't handle pressure.

If JMM does resign to GB, then Berto is the only opponent I can see for Pac after Mosley.
Especialy since Mayweather will be gone from the rankings in a few weeks, which will bump Berto up to the 2nd spot.

It means "for the win". He is on the Ortiz bandwagon. I agree with you that Berto should win this one and it has a pretty good chance of not being close. Super crude and slow Maidana got to Ortiz. He knocked Peterson down twice in a 10 rd fight and only got a draw. Worst off, the draw was the right decision in my book. Ortiz can be outboxed and Berto is quick and powerful.

Berto beats Ortiz. I'm actually considering putting some money on this one.

Not really, just think Ortiz is a better fighter than Bumdre Berto

Ortiz camp says no hugging allowed Bumdre

http://www.examiner.com/boxing-in-national/vicious-victor-ortiz-camp-protesting-says-it-s-a-cinch-andre-berto-will-clinch#boxing
To hear the Vicious Victor Ortiz camp tell it, there's only one cinch with a fight involving undefeated WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto.
It's a cinch, manager Rolando Arellano said, that the long-armed Berto will clinch and clinch excessively.
"We're going to alert the referee (expected to be Steve Smoger)," Arellano told me just before a press conference was held at the Armory on West 168 Street in Washington Heights on Wednesday.
"We want to call attention to the excessive holding, the constant clinching that has marked and marred so many of Berto's past fights," Arellano said.
(Most often cited example of Berto's penchant for holding was his points victory over Brooklyn lefty Luis Collazo. In that bout held in Mississippi, referee Keith Hughes penalized Berto one point for doing so after three warnings and 27 clinches.)
Let the bleating begin.
It should be pointed out that the fourth round penalty point was assessed in a victory which was one of Berto's best overall performances. Berto now owns a 27-0 record with 21 KOs while the sometimes erratic but always hard-hitting Ortiz stands 28-2-2 with 22 knockouts.
It's unusual for prefight complaints to come from a fighter's camp before they even arrive at the venue. Team Ortiz was en route to the MGM Grand at Foxwoods right after the presser.
Arellano, who used to co-manage Ferocious Fernando Vargas, said clinching and otherwise gripping or smothering opponents is a regular bad habit for Berto.
For his part, Ortiz said he will use other measures to stop the clinching if he must.
"We know he does all that holding. We've seen three fights where he was holiding eight to 10 times in each round.
"I let the ref just do his job...but if he doesn't, I will do what I have to do and it won't be pretty."
You don't think Mr. Ortiz is talking about hitting low, do you?
Well, they do call refer to him as Vicious.

Get well wishes going out today first to Berto promoter Lou DiBella, whose mother, Anna, had to get a pacemaker.
One thing about the DiBella clan, we know they've all got big hearts. I hear Lou's mother, Anna, is doing better at Huntington Hospital on Long Island.
On the Golden Boy side of the promotion, big shout out and get will cheer for 2011 Boxing Writers Association of America Marvin Kohn "Good Guy" Aaward winner and ace publicist Bill Caplan.
Word from Tarzana Hospital in California is that the irrepressible Caplan, who was treated for blood clots on the lungs, is getting ready to exit sick bay in a few days for some recuperation at home.
I'm betting Caplan will be there, in living color, to pick up his BWAA honor May 6 at the MGM Hrand in Las Vegas on the eve of the Sugar Shane Mosley-Manny Pacquiao fight.
In fact, I don't think it's even legal to hold a BWAA Annual Aawards Dinner without the omnipresent Caplan.

OK...I just think that Berto is the more dedicated fighter and has enough speed & power to make Ortiz fold...again. For the record I think Ortiz beat Peterson, but gassed & should have, but didn't finish him.gomez1012 wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:What does that mean?gomez1012 wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:Berto is a chinless, powerful, hugger fighter. Berto should of finished Juan Urango, Steve Forbes, and not been dropped by Cosme Rivera!

Re: Berto - Ortiz
In the words of Teddy Atlas, fighters allow themselves to be held.
Ortiz knows Berto is going to hold, so don't fall in. Step back and fire a shot off while Berto is reaching in to hug.
Or can pull a Mayweather. Hatton's complaints that Cortez didn't allow him to hold is only partialy accurate. Hatton also didn't want to hold because everytime he went in to do so, he got a face full of Mayweather's elbows

Re: Berto - Ortiz
LOL....pretzel logic. Forbes has never, ever been stopped, Urango only once (even Hatton couldn't stop him) and Berto has improved steadily since the Rivera fight. If anything, he showed that he could take a shot & come back strong in that fight, which showed in the scores.gomez1012 wrote:flapanther2001 wrote:
