Alvarez-Hatton In Jeopardy? Hatton Advised To Walk If “Canelo” Weighs-In At More Than 150-Pounds

Set to take place this Saturday night in California, the Saul Alvarez-Matthew Hatton WBC light-middleweight title fight could be in trouble. Ricky Hatton, brother of course of “Magic” Matthew, in speaking with The Daily Mail, says he has advised his brother to “walk away” if the Mexican weighs-in at any more 150-pounds.

“Our contract with Golden Boy stipulates both fighters come in at or under 150-pounds,” Ricky Hatton said. “If Alvarez is above that I would want Matthew to call it off. He is already giving away weight to a bigger man. This lad [Alvarez] doesn’t look to me like he’s draining down to the agreed limit. I’m wondering if he’s just going to come in at his usual poundage, pay the fine that’s in the contract and expect the fight to go on.”

Hatton’s lawyer, Gareth Williams, was even more forceful with his choice of words, reports The Daily Mail - with Williams insisting the fight will “be off” if Alvarez comes in above the agreed weight of 150. Interestingly, Matthew Hatton himself is not as up in arms as are his brother and lawyer.

“I’ve heard what’s being said but I want to believe Alvarez will honour our agreement,” Matthew said. If not, it will cost him a third of his purse ……… and give us a decision to make.”

HBO and the WBC are a joke here. hatton isn't a junior middle. Yet this is for some form of bullshit belt. Hatton isn't a suitable opponent. How about letting him face legitimate junior middles instead of guys like Cotto's brother, Matt Hatton, Cuello (who Chavez Jr. already beat), and old ass Baldomir.

What does it teach a fighter to feed him little guys, never-will-bes, and has-beens?

Yes, he has potential to be damn good, but he hasn't faced a legit top 20 guy yet!!!!! This is bullshit of the highest order.

That whole card is bullshit. Broner, who has been fighting at 135, is fighting Ponce De Leon, who has fought at 122 and 126. 126. He is going up 9 pounds to face a 135 pound prospect. That is bullshit. Put the kid in with someone who at least has fought at 135 before (or 130 before).

HBO approves these fights because they are morons.

Ponce De Leon is much more experienced than Broner, but going from 126 to 135 when you are not a big man is a bad idea in my book.

On the one hand I agree with their stance since they've agreed to fight at a certain weight, but on the other hand this is Mathew's only chance to escape from Ricky's shadow, he just needs to throw caution to the wind and give his all.

Alvarez has weighed in for recent fights:

150 against Cotto
150 and 1/4 against Cuello
150 and 1/2 against Baldomir
and the kicker
149 and 1/2 in his most recent fight- fucking December 4th

If you can make 149 and a 1/2 in a fight 3 months ago I don't see how you come in at 151.8 lbs. Either he has been struggling big time to get down to the weights for those fights or they have been figuring Hatton would just take the money and cave (and thus didn't care about making weight).

If I'm Hatton I tell him to fuck off.

This is what happened. Canelo was not going to make weight. He was going to pull a Mayweather, not drain himself, and just take the fine. I gurantee was planning to show up at 153-154.

But, when it came out that Ricki and the lawyer advised Matty to walk if Canelo doesn't make weight, Canelo had ditch the weight last minute, and could only get to 151. Probably why he looks like total shit.

sounds likely to me. No matter what I'm sick of fights like this. a young fighter going after smaller fighters. At a certain point you have to take on someone the same size who isn't old as dirt.

I respected doctor said that there needs to be a week before weigh-in appointment. And the fighter has to be like within 5-6 pounds of his target weight at that point.

It would end this bullshit if they did that.
