lol the article's title is "HBO INTERESTED IN WILLIAMS VS. CINTRON II" but we know that means Haymon interested hahaha.

Haymon's gotten his guys on HBO right after a bad loss. Criscos ass was on HBO right after being drubbed by Vitali. But I guess now he's banished to FNF land for eternity.

this is a common unfound arguement by many not only fans but some ill advised boxing people also...paul williams has confidence in his abilty and dont need to fight a can or a guy that cant punch cause paul knows he can win that fight with ease..
what message does it say to paul is that were going to match you up with a guy with calderon power ranked in the area of 50-75 in the world.
williams needs to learn how to take advantage of his reach with a tommy hearns jab..he needs to learn how to load up on his punches with leverage cause the guy can hit but not to maximum potential..he needs to learn how not to lean in with his chin..to fight tall..
training on thoses shortcomings untill its routine..yes a new trainer or a change in that trainers outlook and philosophy..
theres noo better fight then citron for williams to do that with..sweet victory over unfinished business is a confidence builder if he needs one and i doubt it...

yeh dmar i do kinda agree with a lot you're saying. but i'm just seeing things from a promoter and fighter's perspective. Goosen and Haymon have a duty of care to their fighter and his career. i'm not saying Williams should avoid Cintron for the rest of his career. i'm just saying the timing is all wrong for that klind of match-up. Williams has been in some pretty entertaining fights, he isn't afraid to fight anybody which is a danger for a fearless man. to put Williams in against Cintron now it just absurd. back in the day a lot of fights were fixed by the mob but the guy that threw the fight was looked after. not saying this was always the case, whast i'm trying to say is the sport runs completely differently to how it used to. Williams gets KO'd twice in a row and nobody comes out of that fight a winner. the promoter doesn't, Paul Williams doesn't, Cintron doesn't get his credit, HBO lose an investment, one of the most feared/talented US fighter's career goes down the toilet. you know the humbling manner of William's last defeat is not one that many fighters experience on such a huge scale, look at what it did to Ricky Hatton! Williams doesn't need to be put out like a lamb to slaughter, even though i'm a massive fan of this brutal yet beautiful sport i get no pleasure in seeing young men's lives being ruined. i'd much rather see how Williams has picked himself up from that defeat and see him work his way back to the top. the Cintron fight will always be there for him, i'd rather see a fully fit and confident Williams vs a fully fit and confident Cintron

THe first fight intrigued me because one of 2 things was all but guaranteed to happen. Either Wiliams kicked it into high gear and Cintron buckled under the mental pressure (he aint exactly determined in there) OR Cintron did what I thought he would and landed a KO shot on the "wide-open hanging there and just waiting to get nailed" chin of Williams. It was interesting to me and I was very disappointed in the ending the first time.

I'd love to see the rematch but PW would be a bit crazy to not take a confidence building fight first (and work on some damn defense).
