is that really a strong undercard? i mean it's great there are lots of fights but what fight there for you really leaves you licking your lips in anticipation? why is it that these Diva bitches all want to be the only big name on a boxing event. PPVs would be far more successful if they could boast more than one showcase fight at a time. It seems fans in the US definitely get short changed in that respect.

I wouldn't say strong, I'd say good for a televised unification. Kendall Holt is arguably the biggest name on there and I bet if you ask anyone beside us who Kendall Holt is they'd say they didn't. I hope they put Anthony Dirrell on the undercard. Question: Did his team completely start over with him? This is his ninth fight in his 2.5 year comeback and all have been under ten.

I said strong as in being there live.
Tix start at $25 for the event
Compared to what you normally see, prospect vs can, gives you some name fighters.
True HB24, not names a casual fan would know.
Wasnt there a story when Anthony Dirrell came back last year because of cancer or something?

He took two years off because of Lymphoma and came back in October 2008.
It's a good live card I guess, I'd like to see it.

i think this is the point here. for $25 though, i agree that it is definitely a good night for the fans in Detroit. it's good to see that happening for sure. hopefully the promoters will realise that bigger gates equals extra income. it is a bit annoying to know that less than 5000 turned up for an event such as Martinez vs Williams 2 for the undisputed Middleweight Championship of the World. i think it is also good that this fight has not ended up in Las Vegas where the previous scenario would have been replicated or probably worse. Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come for the sport in the US

Yep, the 3 Ward fights I went to all had just crap on the under card. Like they where trying to find the worst match ups possible
No local prospects/fighters, nothing besides the main event

what do you put that down to? personally i blame it on the fighters becoming more powerful in terms of negotiating their demands. when the promoter was solely running the show it was down to them to showcase their future talents. the fighters had to take what they could get and be happy. the problem is now that these fighters that aren't even superstars or have a fan base, demand nearly all the money that the TV network is putting into the fight which leaves not enough money to go around for other events. also the promoter has no reason to put on undercards because the attendances are so low. they just put on the fights that are going to be on TV and be done with it the easy way

Promoters being lazy and cheap
Like you said, the main event fighters get the largest purse, and they'll skim on everything else to save $$$.
As a promoter you would think you would just to continue to build off Ward. Showcase other fighters in Oakland (wherever) or even if its so-so local talent to sign.

yeh exactly, surely it's all about exploiting a situation as much as you can. you've already got a great fight as the main card you might as well maximise gate receipts by putting on better events for the potential audience. putting on local fighters is exactly the kind of thing needed because whether they are any good or not they get the local support. we're wasted talents mate haha

I have liked the 2 undercards that Don King has put on for the last 2 big STL cards. I'm a Sharif Bogere and Ryan Coyne fan because of them.

for 25 dollars you got a bargin..the undercard the undercard..please..a fight gets announced lets say a bradley-alexander and the first thing out of most fans mouths on chat wrap here and other forums is whos on the undercard.my first thoughts are i dont give a fuck whos on the undercard..the main event is the fight thats the major selling point.for 25 dollars to see this fight well if there was nooo undercard at all and the fight was in your area would you stay home because theres no undercard or go see it live..
when they announced ali-frazier 2 or ali-patterson at the garden for example i said ill travel to ny city and see thoses fights.there was no undercard annouced at that time..when it was announced george foreman was going to fight in my home town against scot ledoux i said im going..it was to see foreman live..no mention of the undercard which by the way was excellent..the other fights are a BONUS.
look at the undercard as a bonus only.if the main event cannot stand on its own 2 feet then you ansered your question of am i going to see it live or on ppv..unfortunetly the opposite is the thinking..undercard buyers..
