Richard Schaefer wants Maidana vs Berto

In the immediate aftermath of Maidana's exciting (but losing) performance against Khan in their junior welterweight title bout last Saturday in Las Vegas, Golden Boy's Schaefer, who promotes Khan and co-promotes Maidana, and DiBella talked about a possible fight next year between Maidana and Andre Berto. Berto is in the running to land a May 7 shot against Manny Pacquiao, but he's a long shot to get the fight. However, it looks like a Berto-Maidana fight is unlikely. "Richard said he would explore it, but he needs to talk to Maidana and HBO told me [Wednesday] that they didn't think it would happen because Maidana wants to stay at 140," DiBella said. "HBO would be happy to buy the fight, but they don't think it can be made."

Berto fought enough Jr Welters, he needs to fight a legit welter. Wouldn't even be a fair or competitive fight for Maidana, he's too small for welter.
