BOXINGS NEXT GREAT ONE Empty BOXINGS NEXT GREAT ONE

Post  dmar5143 Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:50 am

every so often out of the mainstream comes a fighter that i have hopes for as the next great one.its been years ever since the young hector camacho came on the sceen that a fighter has capture my immagination in a big way.that fighter is adrien broner.like camacho broner at a early age is a complete fighter.hector was a little more schooled on all the tricks of the trade.both were or are brash and bold.the big differnce is that hector had a charm about him.a boyish smile and charm that his boldness was likeable.i guess its called personality.broner doesnt have that just yet.that could be a downfall as far as the public giving him likeabilty.
broner is still in the learning stage but his completness is there and its a path to greatness all time greatness if he dont fuck it up like hector did.
why am i high on this kid.its called talent.fucking talent that a huge majority of top fighters today truly lack.complete talent like the old days where divisions had tons of them..he learned from the deleon fight in which i thought he lost by a hair.unlike the school of thought today i feel a loss at this stage makes a fighter great if he learns and developes from it.all signs say broner has..his handspeed is awsome.his power is fantastic.his footworek and balance is top shelf.he fights well at angles.great combos with a variety of mixing his punches with power and speed.he actualy knows how to feight and set traps.hes a excellent boxer-puncher with fantastic closing skills combined with a potential killer instink...as far as i can see he has no weakness except maybe misplaced ego.
he not only does everything well he does it well enough that it reminds me of the true great ones.to me hes a mixture of mayweather and mosley at there best.at 22 hes advanced over shane at that age.shane was just turning pro.hes on par with floyd at that age and just perhaps a hair better in developement.
if i handled him and i wish i did id advise no contract with any tv folks..hes good enough that both hbo and showtime will put him on twice a year each..a mayweather path of business which is smart.thats 4 fights a year.one more fight in his hometown against a stay busy type of fight.no tv or maybe a friday night fight.yes a big name on friday nights because its a stay busy fight.after all george foreman in his comback fought plenty of fights on usa network or friday nights and george was a huge name.in 5 years 25 fights 15 against top competion.he may lose once so what he will avenge that loss.activity like that and there should be no legit reason not to do that could establish this kid where his potential is.a all time great and in the process he will make big money.dont attempt to squeze every penny out of tv etc etc the money will be there in satisfactory numbers.dont let that be a block to fighting and keep the ego in check.stay focused and train for perfection.perfection may not come but true greatness sure will.lets hope ok.the kids got it.

i agree that he has a ton of talent. he still has a few things to work on though. i think the main thing is his defense against aggressive fighters. so far in his career, aggressive fighters have given him some problems and have landed some shots on him. im sure that he will progress on that though. my biggest problem with him is that he will turn into a floyd mayweather attitude wise. im afraid that his attitude might impede what he could be. the difference though is that floyd actually seems to immature with age. hopefully broner can mature with age.

I just don't see Broner ever becoming a cross-over, mainstream star in boxing. His pompous attitude has already turned a lot of people off to him. He does not have the kind of charisma to make his arrogance entertaining like Camacho or Prince Naseem did.

His attitude is like Jones Jr's, except Broner doesn't have a fraction of Jones Jr's athletic ability.

On top of that, there are no big enough name opponents for him to fight that'd boost him into the mainstream. He's never going to fight Mayweather or Pac.

grant a gamboa fight next year would be awsome.broner has more talent then jones.jones more athletic.jones became a star dispite the personality and lack of big time names..im not talking here though about a potential star but a potential great fighter.i feel theres a differnce and i did mention in the post his ego needs to be checked because unlike camacho its not viewed as likeable.
ezzard charles for example is a all time great but was never considered a star.

Broner does not have more talent than Jones Jr did in his prime. Not even close. Broner is more like Hopkins than Jones Jr as far as style.

I just don't see a guy that struggled and should have lost to Ponce De Leon being a great. Growing pains perhaps? But as Power mentioned, he struggles against offensive fighters who are not complete bums.

that strugling will change.broner -hopkins to me is a extremly poor comparison style wise .bo hop is another great one we could maybe say isnt a star.there is a differnce.gatti was a semi-star but not a great one.i feel the kids got the goods to make a great fighter you feel hes a average joe or ham and egger maybe.what can i say as usual we disagree.he had a hard time in that one fight.no big deal.he should learn from that.

I think he is going to be very good. I am not sure about becoming a star though. Its so tough to do that. He would have to take the route Floyd, Manny and Oscar did. Win win move up in weight win win and do it all over again.

It's impossible to tell how good he is until he starts fighting legit fighters. The toughest opponent he had was Ponce, and many people, myself included, had him losing that fight. And Ponce is a B-level opponent.

Jr Lightweight is crap. It will be at Lightweight where he can prove how good he is.

Would you pick Broner against Molina, DeMarco, Guerrero, Rios, or JMM?

1-I don't fucking like Broner. Never have.
2-130 is pretty freaking crappy.
3-Broner is 22 I think.
Molina is late 20s. Demarco is 25 or 26, Rios is 25 I think. Guerrero is 28 or 29.

I probably wouldn't pick Broner right now over Guerrero, Rios. Demarco or Molina? Probably would take him.

The question is where is Broner by say late 2013.

And yes, Ponce beat him. My fucking scorecard said so!!!!

rios is not a lightweight.anyone who weights 150 fight nite is far from a lightweight..yes id take broner now over some of thoses guys not all of them.even though there bigger..thats now.but hes young and im talking potential here.close to unlimited potential if he doesnt mess up.lets say that 2 years from now and we freeze these guys where they dont age then ill take broner over them all and by a knockout or a wide descion.rios is a legit 140 pounder that will be a welter not to far from now i think.
so whats being implied here is that this kid has reached his potential he cant fine tune anything.he will not improve.then of course we downgrade his opposition.ponce is a B fighter.years ago ring yearly listed fighters in categories.there was the top ten sometimes the top 15 depending on the debth of the division.then there were a group of fighters classified as A type fighters.dozens of them then followed by B type fighters.ponce by that definition is a A type fighter and near the top of that class.
yes his division is very poor.so is wlads for years.broner had a very tough fight against a very experienced guy who was a world class top ten legit fighter for some years.wlad was koed by a bum and 2 mediocre fighters.is anyone here going to say wlad is not a good to very good fighter because he fights in a awfull division.wlad has improved in some areas like stanima for example.
broner surely has room for improvement and developement.
the talent and skill is there.its still somewhat raw.surely it isnt difficult to understand the word potential is it.or developement.if someone cant see the possibilties for this kid future wise and want to dismiss him as well lets say a flash in the pan for example because he had one tough fight then they have no business talking boxing.
it doesnt take much vision to see that this kid has the potential to be something special.potential should not be a difficult word to understand.

im with dmar. i think Broner is going to be great. he looks so comfortable in the ring. he will be a star based off his success. he will end up being a 4-5 weight champ easy

The thing that will keep him from becoming a star is his personality. He's too effeminate. The bigger he becomes, the more people will disrespect him.

I think he has what it takes to be a special fighter in the ring though. I don't see anyone at 130 who can touch him and I think he would do well right now at 135. He has a bright future.

he's a natural showman. he likes to perform to the crowd. with the right guidance he will pull off enough PR stunts to keep him in the limelight that will help to build his star. he'll be fine

Ponce is not a A type fighter. Ponce loses to A-type fighters. Caballero, Lopez, and Gamboa. Fuck, Lopez knocked him the fuck out in one round, and it's now debatable if Lopez is even an A-type fighter.

grant again read.read the definition that ring mag had for A B C type fighters.yearly they classified fighters in that category.the guys you mentioned are ranked fighters there above a b or c fighters but of course since its my post you like to disagree.ponce by that defintion is at least a a fighter.by the way since you are a fan im curious.on espn or here i dont remember you saying at least once this fighter used to be a favorite of mine or i like this guy or im a fan of his.you list no fighters on here as a favorite as others do.i find that interesting.is there anyone since you have been watching boxing that where favorites of yours or at least you liked and rooted for on a consistent basis.or fighters.most of us have several..

Been watching boxing for a long time, since I can remember. Which is funny, because I remember people bitching about how boring Larry Holmes was and how is compeition was garbage. Now, people consider Holmes underrated and his competition good. Same thing with Lennox Lewis. And the same will happen with the Klitschkos. Watch, five years after they are gone, people look back at them differently.

People look to the past too much with nostalgia and rose tented glasses

grant i dont think thats the case of rose color glasses.some nostalgia yes.i dont think holmes is underated.i dont remember anyone saying the competion was garbadge either ..now some guys he fought were like scott frank leon spinks tex cobb and a few otherswere garbadge but the division as i mentioned had some good fighters who could do several things well..we cant say that today.dokes weatherspoon smith at least will punch back.they came to fight...the first time i saw holmes fight it was closed curcit on the foreman -frazier fight he fought rodney bobick.i asked the guy next to me whats his name again.he said why its holmes.i said because your looking at a future heavyweight champ and a good one..i didnt like holmes caution that night something i felt stayed with him a bit threwout his career but no where like the k brothers.
folks will never say the k brothers fought in a decent era.not unless 25 years from now it gets worse.could that be possible .25 years of worse.yuck.

dmare, writers and people wrote HWs during Holmes and Tyson's time off as the "Lost Generation of Heavyweights."

They were pretty much considered the 80s' version of the "Bum of the Month" club. Was that accurate, of course not. Back then, though, I remember lots of people and writers calling HW division garbage.

I guess so. Because many feel this is key factor that made Tyson explode in popularity. People bored with Larry Holmes 15 round decision wins against medicre opponents, and here comes this kind knocking these guys across the ring in one or two rounds

from a Ron Borges piece from boxing monthly.

That’s how it always seemed to go for the Lost Heavyweights — Tubbs, Tim Witherspoon, Michael Dokes, Pinklon Thomas, Greg Page, Bonecrusher Smith, Tony Tucker and Trevor Berbick — not to mention fringe contenders like Quick Tillis and David Bey. They were a sad lot but a talented one, a group destroyed by their own weaknesses, the greed and mind-bending manipulation of their promoter, Don King, and the man who managed most of them in name only, King’s son Carl.
