Cotto vs Trout December 1st.
from boxingscene
by Osman Rodriguez
Former three division world champion Miguel Cotto has announced that he will be facing undefeated WBA "regular" champion Austin Trout (25-0, 14KOs) on December 1st at New York's Madison Square Garden.
"I officially announce that my fight on December 1st at MSG will be with the undefeated WBA super welterweight champion Austin Trout," Cotto announced.
The announcement by Cotto (37-3, 30KOs) will certainly rule him out as possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao, who is also scheduled to return in early December. It also cements the claims of Juan Manuel Marquez, who in several recent reports on BoxingScene expressed his confidence in being the frontrunner to face Pacquiao.
Cotto was last seen in the ring in the month of May, losing a spirited twelve round decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Trout is managed by Al Haymon and promoted by Greg Cohen. He won the vacant WBA title last February with a twelve round decision over Rigoberto Alvarez, the older brother of WBC champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. He then defended the title with dominating decisions over Frank LaPorto, David Lopez and in June he defeated Delvin Rodriguez.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had previously revealed to BoxingScene that his company is planning to co-promote the event with Cotto, a promotional free agent since his contract expired with Top Rank on Decembe 31 of last year.

Weird fight, I figured Cotto would only want the mega-fights at this point of his career. Can't complain though, with two top ten guys at 154 fighting.

Re: Cotto vs Trout December 1st.
floyd rematch not happening right now if ever
canelo-fighting lopez and cotto doesn't want that fight after losing to mayweather.
angulo-just out of the pound
kirkland-just off of an injury and fighting with his entire management/promotional team; not best time to make a deal
Lara-facing Vanes
Vanes-facing Lara
Most likely candidates:
Bundrage
Trout
Molina
Molina doesn't have a trinket and is a heck of a tough fight (win or lose). So Bundrage and Trout with their trinkets. Trout is probably a little bit easier opponent to sell to the boxing public. Add to it that Trout is a GB fighter and Cotto can make a deal with them without too much trouble.
So we get Trout.

i like it. i think that cotto wins but good job for fighting a top 10 154 pounder unlike some other fighters in that weight class.

I think as of right now I will go with Trout by SD. That is Sith (Lord) Decision in this case. I think Haymon's influence will cancel Cotto's hometown influence and it will be a somewhat fair decision. Trout boxes well and is a full fledged 154'er vs Cotto still being a small one that would be comfortable at around 151.

boxingscene is reporting Cotto vs Pac II fell apart over the weight. It said Pac had agreed to go no higher than 150.

Trout has to win this fight with his jab & his legs. If he stands still, Cotto should break him down.

on point. If trout uses his feet and jab, he can bank rounds.

As should have! Cotto is never fighting below 154lbs and after the money man himself PBF did not make Cotto sweat below 154lb then Cotto should not have to sweat for less money vs Pac

i think that cotto wins via KO unless trout all of the sudden gets good. hes not a terrible fighter but his boxing skills arent good enough to keep cotto off of him.
