Re: The Black Eye Thread
I've found that HBO and the uneducated boxing press are a detriment to our sport.
I admire some of the shows HBO has put on, however the PPV promotions they've put on in the last 5 years have been laughable. I don't blame fighters who duck other fighters for ruining the sport. I blame the press for allowing these fighters to appear on PPV and make them appear to be getting a fortune (which I have some question about.).
Also, test the intellect of the NFL Press with the Boxing Press and you'll find a big gap in knowledge in relation to their respective sports. Would anyone compare John Madden's knowledge of football with Fat Dan's boxing expertise? Of course not.
Just a few problems I've noticed.

Re: The Black Eye Thread
Numerous blatant corrupt decisions (too many to mention here).
Texas
As Grant has mentioned before, Ali's condition has certainly hurt the sport. Him being such a public figure and ending up in such horrible shape really hurt the sport by discouraging potential fighters.
Don King. The average citizen has never heard of Bob, Gary, Schafer and Lou. Anytime people think of King they think of all the shady dealings in boxing.
