Re: Nonito's wife unhappy with Top Rank contract -- Leaves for GBP
why the fuck has this bitch got to poke her nose in about everything?? that's like having your wife go up to your boss and for her to tell him/her what they should be paying you and what hours you should be working. what the fuck does Rachel Donaire know about boxing promotion? Nonito, whilst being a classy fighter, still isn't a mainstream draw that commands huge paydays and gets to call the shots. whilst he is an extremely talented guy, he still needs to work his way to that Superstar status outside of hardcore boxing fans. Froch's bird has a big mouth when he is fighting and she is supporting him, Donaire's bird just talks way too much all of the time. what an annoying bitch

that's is exactly what i was thinking. Shane's wife was his manager..... how did that work out for him again???? maybe she is just trying to make a name for herself but i think she should keep her trap shut because Top Rank are the best promotional outfit in the World right now, the grass isn't always greener on the other side

Golden Boy Promotions is extremely pleased to announce the signing of Two-Division World Champion Nonito Donaire to its roster of fighters. The 28-year-old native of the Philippines is coming off of a dominant second round stoppage of Fernando Montiel on February 19, which earned him the WBC and WBO Bantamweight World Titles. Now, as he looks to continue his reign as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers today, "The Filipino Flash" has signed an exclusive, multi-year agreement with Golden Boy Promotions.
"Nonito Donaire is one of the top boxers in the world today and we're going to make sure he gets the chance to defend his world titles and stays as active as possible," said Oscar de la Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions. "The bantamweight division is becoming one of the most competitive and exciting divisions in boxing and we look forward to promoting Nonito in great fights in the coming years."
"I'm honored to be joining so many great fighters and champions on the Golden Boy Promotions team, with," said Donaire. "I'm going to fight my heart out every time I'm in the ring and will give fans the fights they want to see."
A native of Talibon, Bohol, Philippines who now resides in San Leandro, California, Donaire (26-1, 18 KO's) is unbeaten since his lone loss in his first year as a professional in 2001. Since then, he has defeated everyone put in his path, and in July of 2007, he won the IBF and IBO Flyweight World Titles with a fifth round knockout of then-unbeaten Vic "Raging Bull" Darchiniyan. He went on to defend his titles three times before winning the WBA Super Flyweight Interim World Title with a unanimous decision victory over Rafael "Torito" Concepcion in August of 2009, which he then successfully defended in August of 2010 against Hernan "Tyson" Marquez. Following the Marquez fight, Donaire moved up to the bantamweight division where in just his second bout at the new weight, he shocked the boxing world with the ease with which he dominated Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel in February. In 2011, Donaire will look to defend his new crown with Golden Boy Promotions in his corner.

Horrible decision by Nonito IMO. He can now get the winner of the tourney no doubt but what will he do in other divisions? At 122 and 126, Bob had fighters lined up ready for him. Antonio Escalante and Chris John are the most relevant fighters GBP has in either division. Juanma, Gamboa, Molitor, and Rigondeaux all are no longer an option.

at work so no time to go reading the articles, but maybe the fact I am a lawyer has me hung up on the thread title. Contract dispute. He either has a contract with Top Rank or he doesn't.
I don't recall there being alot of discussion before or after his last fight about his contract with Top Rank ending or him being without a promoter in the future.
Bob Arum is Harvard educated. Former lawyer for the justice department. Top Rank undoubtedly has good legal representation and if he has a contract, this is going to court and there will be alot of sitting by Donaire in the interim (unless somehow they can prove breach against Top Rank or there is some buyout clause for Donaire in the contract).
General impression-another underhanded move by Golden Boy. Going to escalate the animosity (not strong enough word) between Top Rank and golden boy and further damage the sport.

The only added opponent is Mares. All other bantams were possibilities before the move. I was pointing out 122 and 126 mostly because Donaire is not staying long at 118.

If he has a valid contract with Top Rank, his ass won't be doing any fighting. He'll be sitting waiting for everything to go through the legal process. Top Rank would undoubtedly try to get an injunction to prevent him from fighting.
If he has a contract with Top Rank, he can't just go sign with Golden Boy and then fight.

can't wait to get home so I can go digging for all the facts. Normally when you see a fighter with a contractual dispute, his ass is sitting. And Sitting. And Sitting. And Sitting. And Sitting. Is him sitting on his ass going to raise his profile? NO.

This is common in boxing. Guys in contractual disputes. It usually takes a long time to get fixed and it doesn't benefit anyone involved (fighter sitting, old promoter having to go to court, new promoter waiting for a fighter and often some form of remittance to old promoter). No one wins but the attorneys!!!!!!

going with GBP actually does us favors. A fight with Moreno could be likely and him fighting the winner of the Bantom Tourney can actually happen, especially if Mares wins. Bad thing is we wont see Donaire in a long while since Arum is going to take GBP to court.

Re: Nonito's wife unhappy with Top Rank contract -- Leaves for GBP
Lines taken From Fat Dan's article:
"Top Rank has a valid contract and we will enforce our rights," Arum told ESPN.com.
Donaire, however, said he was happy to be with Golden Boy, although he did not address the status of his contract with Top Rank.
"I'm honored to be joining so many great fighters and champions on the Golden Boy Promotions team," Donaire said in a statement. "I'm going to fight my heart out every time I'm in the ring and will give fans the fights they want to see."
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer also would not address the potential legal issues surrounding the signing.
Prepare for Donaire to be sitting on the shelf if Arum's legal team goes as hard as they should.

This can kill the momentum Donaire got in beating Montiel.

Top Rank actually "stole" Nonito from Gary Shaw.

Top Rank didn't steal him from Shaw. Donaire contract with Shaw was over with, and Shaw like all his fighters, wasn't doing anything to promote him, so he went to Top Rank.
GB flat out steals fighters when they are under contract with other promoters. Fuck, they are already getting sued by Alverez's former promoter, stating Alverez is still under contract with them, and GB knew it when they signed him.
