Three possible venues for Andre Ward vs Arthur Abraham
It looks like the Super Six World Boxing Classic semifinal between tournament leader Andre Ward and Arthur Abraham will take place on May 14. The site for the Showtime-televised super middleweight title bout has not been finalized but it will definitely not take place in Europe, according to Goossen, Ward‘s promoter.
Three locations in the U.S. -- Southern California, Atlantic City, N.J., and Portland, Ore., -- are being considered, Goossen told RingTV.com.
“(Kalle) Sauerland (Abraham’s Germany-based promoter) is not willing to come to (Ward’s hometown of) Oakland but he is willing to make concessions to do the bout in America and at an arena that I feel is worthy of the star that I believe Ward is becoming,” he said.
Goossen says the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, and a number of venues in Southern California are being considered.
Ward, THE RING’s No. 1-rated super middleweight who holds the WBA title, has fought his last three bouts at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.
Both of Williams' bouts with Martinez, which Goossen co-promoted with Lou DiBella, took place at the Boardwalk Hall. Goossen promoted the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Sharmba Mitchell fight, which took place at the Rose Garden in November of 2005.

I think this could be a good fight. Abraham has a better chance at beating Ward than he did with either Dirrell or Froch imo. I do think Ward is the best fighter at 168 though.

I'm not so sure about Ward being the best Super-middleweight, he's gonna need to prove it against Abraham and Froch, in a venue outside his nest in Oakland.
BTW, I don't see Ward becoming the next big thing, or making mega-bucks in boxing, his style just isn't crowd pleasing, (unless he's in Oakland) and he has about as much charisma as a cabbage.

No, Portland. We haven't had a big fight here at Rose Garden since Mayweather-Mitchell in 2005
And boxing needs to come back, because Northwest been taken over by MMA huggers, since Portland is home of Randy and Team Quest

Randy's fearless for his age, in his late forties and will be taking on Machida in April.

I'll say this, Rose Garden is too big for this event. It seats 20k people, and no way cames close to that.

Is there a smaller venue? a convention center or something under 10k seats?

Sure, could have fight at Spirt Mountain Casino in Oregon. That's more realistic venue.
This fight not even going to sell 10k tickets unless it's in Oakland. Ward not a draw, and Abraham not a draw outside Germany.

Wouldn't Abe draw in LA since they've got an Armenian community there ?

Maybe, if actualy did some marketing. But we know not to expect that from lazy promoters.

So Cal would get the biggest gate outside of Germany/Oakland

Re: Three possible venues for Andre Ward vs Arthur Abraham
Telling you, go get a Kardashian, and the fight will sell in So-Call. Hell, they'd probably do it for free since all about whoring themselves out for attention. Shit, tell her she can whore out whatever bullshit she's endorsing.
So go get that big butt, have her do some local TV adds, and got yourself a good crowd.

Definitely needs to be in Cali or this won't sell well.
